This is a very good question and if we think on this, as per current market status or requirements then i must say every organization is very keen to have a MBA person but semaltanously they want experience person as well, in this scenario we can't ignore the importance of degree as well.
but what i feel is we should to consider more on experience then on degree because theoretical knowledge is easy to gain by putting some efforts but experience is not possible, experience will give you live examples, and keep you updated
and finally i would suggest to all organizations that please consider the ability of doing work then degree, don't relate MBA and experience together.
and i will go with experienced person in this case.

I read all the comments to the question what Mr. Gandhi has post in the forum. I agree to all those who have replied as there is some logic attached and on top of it it their personal experience which actually guided 'em all to reach to the respective conclusion...
However, I found the best reason and explanation is from Swastik which is very true.
I would like to add few more strong points like...
If it comes to hiring a HR-Manager then the company would always prefer a guy who got his/her degree in MBA/PGDBM. 'coz its more of understanding the policy frame work, dealing with Human Resource which is most valuable asset of any co., its more of conceptual knoweldge which helps when implemented systematically...Moreover if you think that gaining experience is much worthier than pursuing MBA/ PGDBM then I totally wont agree to it. It's the way you plan it.. Before you join MBA/PGDBM gain some functional experience and then do the course..You can find the difference for yourself...
I would say a MBA/ PGDBM from premier institution's like IIM's,FMS,XLRI... are always worth hiring coz of their vast knowledge what they acquire and the kind of exposure they have towards all the business related issues...

Here's a choice, a person having an MBA with no experience in HR, versus me with only an advanced diploma but 3 years working experience in a multinational company's HR dept. I've helped to set up company policy and strong in compensation and benefits. Who would you choose?
Right now I am no longer attached to the MNC, I am in a small local property development company. Again, I set up the HR manual for this company. And I am handling the HR dept alone.
However, education and qualification are equally important. I am planning to take up a degree in HR to brush up my knowledge. As people always say, there is no end for learning.

All the replies posted below are true. qualification adds more value and saves time on what you want to achieve on a long term. It completely depends on the company hiring you but fresh graduates with few years experience, creative and a vision makes it to the higher level in lesser time frame than others

we live in a world where thr is Lots of competition...
getting a degree is a way in which world presumes tht u r qualified in tht particular field...But in reality its the ''experience'' which matters...
theory prepares us/ helps us to understand the subject...But then Practical knowledge (tht wld be experience) helps us to work effectively in an organisation...hence to practically implement anything we need to knw wht the subject is all about...therefore at this Point the Degree comes into Picture...
then again...it depends on a company to company also...:)

There is no perfect answer to your question 10 exp and and an MBA with 2yrs exp are not comparable. that is what i feel.

MBAs from Top B Schools are recruited for the delivery they give to Business. Their analytical, conceptual, and articulation skills are generally high. In my experience they make good HR Leads for Business Units, with in a large Global Corporation.

Well my take on this issue is as follows:
1. The difference between MBA ana PGDBM is substantial and in the strength of the institute. While even a PGDBM from IIM will get you a 10 Lac+ salary a MBA recognised from IGNOU will not even get you a 1500+ Rupees raise per year. IIMs and others like ISB, MDI and Great Lakes have not got into the MBA trap by awarding a PGDBM to remain outside the purview of AICTE which though has noble intentions is seen as a stiffling body with too many superflous restrictions. One advantage of the MBA from 3rd class universities (I don't intend to derate any institute here though) which are recognised by AICTE is that you can go ahead and do your MPhil and PhD from the same or any other universtiy. On the other hand a PGDBA from one of the premier institute will have to return to the same university for doing a fellowship which though equivalent to PhD will not get you a doctorate and nor will you have the previlage to call yourself a Dr.
2. Regarding whom I would employ between an experienced graduate or a fresher MBA. The choice is clear. If it is a middle level post I shall go ahead and hire the former( Experienced Grad) but given a choice, for a higher post in the organisation even if I have a Exp Grad, I would rather go to the market and get a MBA (from an a or B+ inst) with at least some experience (five to six years in relevant field) rather than an experienced graduate with 15 yrs of experience fro minternal source. So if I were the Exp Grad i'd get some decent certifications before I am run over.
3. Regarding the aspect of which is better- correp course or a full time course. The choice is very apparent. That is, a full time MBA/PGDBM course. so if you have the time and inclination and if you got the dough, then sacrifice a couple of years study in a decent B-School and than get lateral placement in another firm. That will do you a lot of good. But the point here is that don't leave a secured decent paying job to go and study business management in a god forsaken MBA institute not even worth its name.
