You can take consolation from the fact that such HR persons are not Professionals.
In fact, I doubt if he has the requisite degree/certificates. Simply because such actions go against the very principles of Human resource management - destroying a resource is not "management" !!
The ugly scars, of the wounds inflicted on your self-esteem three years go, will take some time to heal. But you must convince yourself that you would not llow such petty activities by petty people, affect your morale and self-respect.
It is good that you have come out of such a humiliating situation. Have confidence in you abilities, keep 'investing' in yourself and be on the lookout of better prospects.
