Hi Smita
Generally the pattern is 3 National Holidays and 5 any other of general interest. If you are a manufacturing establishment ( factory ) then you need to consult your Union . Also see the provisions of Model Standing Orders applicable to you. If you are not a factory then see the relevant act to your establishment like Shops and Establishment Act etc. You may also take a cue from the establishments similar to yours. In old establishments the pattern( no. of Holidays ) is already set. Just follow them unless there is some very valid reason to deviate. In such cases , in my experience , it is difficult to lessen the nos.
Regards
Mohan.

Dear,
Determination of Holidays will depend upon the nature of business, rituals of company, state laws and present market condition.
Ours is FMCG manufacturing & we observe only 7 (seven) out of 7, three (3) are national holidays.

Hi Krishna,
There are two kinds of holidays 1. closed holidays in which are compulsory national holidays five festival and four national holidays, ie. on 26th January, the 15th August, the 2nd October and on 1st May each year, to every person employed in an Industrial Establishment. 2. Optiona holidays: If an industry/organisation is spread in different states to facilitate as per local importance of festivals employees can choose 2 or more totat restricting to no. of holidays decided by the company. There is restriction
regarding minumum compulsory holidays there is no such restriction about maximum no. of holidays, If the company is very liberal in this regard.
