Dear Mr Dilip,
That's really great and implies a clear message !!
Do keep on sending such worthy information. There was an actual incident last month as narrated below which emphasises the importance of safety belt.
Quote:
How seat belt saved us is explained here....
My self and Mr.S.Premchandar had been to Pondy for a plant visit between 11th and 13th November for a different follow up. I used to take my personal SANTRO car for Akm and Pondy factory visit for the last 3 years. On 13th Saturday, while returning back to Chennai we met with an serious accident at Mamandur but it was a great escape for both of us.
As we were nearing Mamandur, two persons riding TVS XL (Later we come to know that they were fully drunk) wanted to cut across the road to opposite side. There is a opening at the middle of Median for the bus to take a U turn, they stopped for a while at median but later they changed their mind and crossed the road in opposite direction when my car was just 20 feet away at 70kmph. It is less than a second to take a call on what to do?. I took a decision to avoid hitting them directly and driven my car to left extreme lane and I was almost successful in that action. But unfortunately after travelling a very few feet away, there was a heap of Concrete Mixture kept for road repair on the left side lane and I could not avoid it.
End results was that my car over turned and toppled 2 times. Both of us were wearing Seat belt at that time and very safe in side the car in spite of over turning twice (My sincere advise to all the vehicle owners and colleagues is not to ignore to wear Seat belts). But in the process, Mr.Premchander escaped with Minor head injury and my self free from any injury. Old SANTRO 2000 model known for strong body which had helped both of us from major injuries even though my car got damaged completely.
Complaint was given to Padalam Police station. Police have released my Car after I gave a letter not to proceed with a case against those two wheeler riders. They have not registered FIR but will issue damage / release certificate to claim Insurance after Mr.Premchandar also give the letter in writing.
My car was given to Kun-Hyundai, Ambattur Industrial estate for valuation and Insurance claim. But my car is beyond repairable condition.
For your information please.
regards,
TN Sundar

Sorry to hear your friend had a motor vehicle accident
Lets talk about is for a second
It was a real plus these two gentlemen were wearing a seat belt it re-addresses my note on seven tenths of a second
Two the importance of being aware of your surroundings
What it doesnt talk about is the after math of the incident
Like always looking several blocks down the way while driving
Scanning three hundered and sixty degrees always the way around you all the time
Driving Offensively not defensively ( defense is now-- offensive is developing a prior or work in play type game plan as you drive)
Always using signal lights leaving a good gap in traffic and or aleast a full two car lengths ahead of you distance
Try to not drive behind bill boards like tall trucks or vans they block your view
And securing all materials in your vehicle so they dont become flying objects if you have a crash or any sort
Alwasy adjust your head rests and seat belts properly and position yourself firmly like a race car driver does in his vehicle
Good Maintainance of the vehicle is equally important as is a clear and clean windshield, tire preassure and low tires can cause accidents just as quick because the tire can blow or be destroyed due to poor maintainance
And always adjust your side mirrors properly so you get the maximum field of view
Slow to traffic conditions were applicable and leave time for errors or traffic delays remember enjoy the journey because enjoying a hospital bed or coffin is really bad
Keep distractions like cellphones and sipping Chai or a beverage to a minimum or wait till the end of the journey
Know the area you are in including high crash locations like known intersections and always commentary drive so you your brain are always active and you really do see the hazards
Last page
Let talk about the two drunks who were doing there thing in life
One they were drunk and should have not been let go they could have by there actions caused more than a simple accident these two gentlemen could have been badly injured for life or dead and then what would there families do would they be missed what would the parents say My son was a good man
Looking for hazards is not just in front of us on a job regardless if it is driving to work or driving at work the hazards are always around use do a hazard assessment plan your route and know risks
Do the necessary paper work as they did
But also know first aid or how to give first aid to accident victims
including how to control bleeding or stabalizing neck or back injuries in this type of accident, the wrong type could leave a accident victim without movement for life
Plus control all bio hazards when doing first aid wear gloves or use face air way masks even a clean piece of cloth will work in a pinch
Always wash up properly after a incident and dispose of all soiled or blood covered items properly
AND ALWAYS ENCOURAGE ALL EMPLOYEES TO TAKE A PROFESSIONAL DRIVER COURSE IT SHARPENS THE SKILLS AND PREVENTS THE INCIDENTS

Who caused the accident for Dipil friend
Well we could say everyone
It could have been the city putting the pile of cement in the location to repair roads a common thing a known hazard
It could have been the two idiots on the bike who were drunk
It could have been the other traffic congestion around them at the time
It could have been the two drivers themselves or the preassures of the business to get to where they were going
It could have been the driver trainer who taught the two to drive
It could have been lots but safety is not about blame but correction and find a better way to prevent further incidents
As mush as the smith system of driving has flaws in some of it teachings it does three thing really right
One alway look up and get the big picture the SIPDE training
Two always commentary drive talk out loud about what you see not just the weather or what was for dinner last night
And finally training is important regardless if it is confined space or first aid or even driving
Here are some examples of the Smith System I have a larger and better ones on my site if any one needs them and they like the other 8000 plus training items are free for the using

Dear Dipil, Firoz, GK, Penny, Hansa madam and all.
This is my first comment after watching daily this site daily. I have downloaded all movie clips & presentations till today.
As I am a EHS coordinator in my company, I have to give lectures for awareness purpose. All these small clips are making my lectures live during the napping hours also. Actully, I am challanging my audience not allowing to sleep during the course.
THANKS A LOT FOR DOING THESE WORK FOR A NOBEL CAUSE WITHOUT HAVING ANY PERSONEL INTEREST. HATES OF TO YOU ALL GUYS.
One more interesting link to share with all of you, is two nos of free DVDs are available from following link which are very usefull. I gave some narration regarding thoses DVDs.
please visit csb.gov
The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) is an
independent federal agency in charge of investigating industrial chemical
accidents.CSB investigations look into all aspects of chemical accidents,
including physical causes such as equipment failure as well as
inadequacies in regulations, industry standards, and safety management
systems. The Board makes safety recommendations to companies, industry
organizations, labor groups, and regulatory agencies such as OSHA and EPA.
In addition to detailed investigation and documentation of all evidences,
CSB is authorized to prepare video films including actual shots from the
accident sites and interviews of eye witnesses with animated modeling to
focus on the cause of the incident and chain of lapses leading to the
catastrophe. At the end of the film, CSB recommends remedial measures
which can provide a vital lesson to other chemical industries for
preventing such incident in their own work premises.
