Hi Prachi.
I too agree with others, if a director who is so bais, that he wants his wish to be granted at companys cost, then how many earlier decisions he must have taken beings bais.As a matter of fact he should be allowed to quit, for the betterment of others in the company.

Hi Prachi,

This situation is not a tough situtation at all. I dont know whether the issue has got resolved or not but thinking that it has not I am providing a solution, this case according to Organisational Behaviour is known as conflict and ego management. If you take it as a case study you will find that the person here (at the director level) does not understand the criticality of the situation from the point of view of a director but he takes it from the point of view of a lover or husband. So this according to OB is ego and conflict management, what you can do here is Impliment the DMAIC theory and plan a brain storming session, if it sounds vague then simply ask every one in the company to contribute and after collecting the amount gift her something amazing showing the director (that person) that she has got all this as an honour if being the wife of a Director. This can be a motivating factor as well for the others because if she gets a gift the director surely would through a party.
I dont know what else to say but from revenue point of view loosing an effecient worker just for this small cause does not prove effective management. This is conflict management and nothing else.

Hi Punchi,
First this senior guy should not have married a junior girl in the same organization if he wants his wife also to be treated like him. That is the first mistake he did.
He should be ready to face the challange when he marry a Junior member. The company should not bend the policy as it seems to be a acceptable level policy just because this guy married a junior.
Though you said that he is an efficent person, his attitude seems to be unacceptable. This wrong attitude would lead him to a disaster. He has 3 options.
1 He leaves the company.
2 His wife leaves the company.
3 He throws a grand party on his expenses to all the employees to save his face if he wants.
4 Just accept the reality and work in the company.
Some times you have to be little harsh also on what you say. There are some guys who does not understand the reality, when they have to face. What is he going to do if this happens to another person?

hi Prachi
my suggestion would be let this issue be sloved at the senior level first including the Head HR...chairperson..MD...etc...
Let him give a suggestion regarding this what should be done so that it might not have a negative effect among other staff...if he is a good resourse of course...
Make him understand the importance of staff at each level and the policy supporting the issue..
Let him suggest if the policy needs to be changed or how this matter to be resolved..
All the heads should discuss the matter together am sure the problem would be solved.....
It's not a big issue ..it do happens at this level....probably human egoestic nature....you can only resolved it after having a proper discussion with him.....

Dear Prachi,
It is quite surprising at such senior level the person is behaving like nuts. I think it is better he should leave becoz one has to and one should maintain professional relationships rather than cry for personal relationships.
Make him read the company policies again .

Hey Prachi, 1 liner simple to do, Let him go. If the person doesn’t understand the company policy he is not fit to be at the senior level. Regrads, Archana

Any celebration across the company should be celebrated without partiality irrespective of levels.
Policies differ from company to company, and if your company had the method of celebrations different across levels, your director should accept that.
If director is not able to digest the way b'day was celebrated for his wife, then he is not a perfect leader.
This will only create chaos across all levels in the organization which will also result in employee loosing hope on the organization.
A senior person from the HR should make your Director understand the weightage of celebrating birthdays in a different manner and also make him understand that his wife is from a entry level.
Thanks
Karuna.

Dear Prachi Jain,

If the director in a company marry an employee at entry level, and insisted the company to change the policy of celebrating the birth day on the similar lines of the celebrations of senior executives of an organisation, there is no justification on his part. It seems to be that he has got some thing in his mind as such he is trying to show the birth day celebrations of his wife as a cause to leave, who is also said to be an employee of your organisation at entry level. Since, every body knows that the salary, responsibility of an employee may vary within an organisation depending upon their skill, qualifications and experience. In your case the director rank employee feels like this some thing wrong in his behavior and his integrity is also in doubtful. You need worry about this type of employees as it indicates his narrow mindedness and let him to leave the organization if he wish. Because, the employee who occupies higher rank in an organisation demands for any thing which is against the principals and policy of the management, we need not consider and bear it and suitable action may also be taken against him for his indecent and irresponsible behavior.
