There are different Minimum wages fixed for different types of activities which come under the Kerala Shops and Commercial Establishments Act. Similarly, minimum basic wages for Manager will be different from Attender or sweeper. There is yet another classification like Star Hotels for which the minimum wages generally fixed for Canteens and Restaurants will not be applicable. Similarly, IT companies which also come under “Shop” have separate minimum wages fixed by Govt. of Kerala.
Dearness allowance is same for all establishments except IT, and it is Rs 24.90 per point increase in cost of living index over 130 points. For IT companies it is Rs 23.40 per point over 130 points of CPI. The average CPI in Kerala as per latest indices published is around 223. Variable DA will be purely dependent on changes in cost of living and therefore, it will be same for all categories of employees.
