Hi Shreya,

The buddy system is a procedure in which two people, the buddies, operate together as a single unit so that they are able to monitor and help each other. When this system is used as part of training or the induction of newcomers to an organisation, the less experienced buddy learns more quickly from close and frequent contact with the experienced buddy than when operating alone.

Induction programme for all(including sales and HO people)

General Induction Programme: Covers the organisation's history, mission, goals, policies, structure, benefits, products, customer's profile and other personnel policies.

. Specific Job Induction: Provides an in-depth information on what is expected of the person and his general accountabilities.

. Departmental Induction: Normally done by departmental heads, it covers departmental objectives, and team goals.

PLUS POINTS

For Employees

. A chance to get a clearer picture of the organisation with a comprehensive introduction to its culture and philosophy.

. Introductions to relevant people, which make it easier for new recruits to approach them subsequently.

. Time to settle in, learn and capture information, before expectations on the deliverables begin to come in.

For the Organisation

A chance to spend important, initial time with new employees, in order to get to know him/her better, therefore set expectations accordingly.

A system that ensures new hires are well-settled and productive at a faster pace. Puts them higher-up on the organisation's learning curve.

Helps keep the groups and departments in shape, and updated on their procedures and policies, since they are expected to share the details regularly.

Hope now u got the idea of buddy system and induction programme.

Hi Shreya
There are other non monetary ways to motivate buddy, for example u can give appreciation letter to buddy for his help to his new colleague. Secondly u can announce BUDDY OF THE MONTH and give some small gift to appreciate his help.
Mentoring is done by senior persons to junior person.Mentorship refers to a developmental relationship between a more experienced mentor and a less experienced partner referred to as a protégé—a person guided and protected by a more prominent person.

Hi Shreya,
You can make it interesting by getting a person from each deptt. to come and introduce one's deptt.putting forth in detail how getting to know the deptts.would be of help.
For e.g.Finance could come and explain how should they fill their investment declaration as well as what would be one point of contact in case of any query.Email ids etc. could also be shared if required. But of course you would require to block the calendars of the speaker well in advance and inform them.
Would like to know how often induction happens in your organization?

Hi! Shreya!

I understand the things that you wish to do on the very first day! You know what happens when you call up so many people from different departments is that they keep talking about their departments without linking it to the job that the new joinees are supposed to do once they start working and this makes it very boring for the new employees. I would suggest you do a Ice breaker and then give them two-three exercises like preparing a presentation on the company after you introduce them to different departments and their heads and then let them discuss it after the lunch break with you acting as tghe moderator and pitching in whenever needed.

Afterwards, you can call the depratment heads and let them know whta all they missed out on, but rather then calling the dep heads on the first day, let them go to them and understand and then call the heads to give presentation on thier respective departments.

I have been taking Induction sessions of new joinees for my organization and try to make it as much fun as possible. Second day onwards(first day being the company introduction) you can start telling them about their roles and how to accomplish that, the various responsibilities and depending upon the time available involve a lot of exercises while the induction is going on!
