Dear All,

I was working as a technical architect in a Software company in 2021.
I quit the job and decided to try something on my own like a startup or business.
At this time I met one of my friends and he is the founder of a small software consulting and placement services company of employees of around 5 members.
My friend offered me to join his company as co-founder & consultant without any investment from me but no pay/salary for me until we reach the scale-up the company.
It was mutual understanding and verbal agreement and I was allowed to do freelancing work.

We put a lot of effort to grow the company in 2022 but due to Corona and other impacts, we were not able to scale up.
Now we have decided to part away amicably and I am trying to join any software company.

I need your input and advice on some of my queries mentioned below.
1. Shall I mention my position as "Co-founder" or "Consultant" or "freelancer" or all three Co-founder/Consultant/freelancer
2. How to prove my role in that com since I never got a salary
3. Other than the pay slip what are all documents I can provide to HR/companies to recognize my service in that company
4. Is it ok to show it as "NOT WORKING IN 2022"
5. Any suggestions are welcome

Appreciate your suggestions, comments, advice and feedback.

Thanks in Advance.

Hi,

Better mention past position as Freelancer. If you mention past position as Co-Founder there are chances of your hiring employer might perceive in a different way and might suspect your credibility how far you will be able perform as a employee.

With regard to proof you may take a certify letter ( To whomsoever it may concern) from your friend certifying your stint with them as a Freelancer along with compensation part.

I would suggest not to show as "NOT WORKING from 2022". Reason being your hiring employer might think you are not capable enough to get a job for more than one year and might negotiate on salary or reject your application too.

Better present you were performing the role Freelancer for your Friend Company on assignment basis and was delivering the relevant work only.
