I've been working with a company as a designer remotely since September 20 this year. After the appointment letter, they kept delaying the contract as I started working for them. I was supposed to move to their city to be in-house in a month. Finally, after a lot of insisting, he sent me one yesterday with really restrictive clauses that I wouldn't care for. They had been demanding more work than was initially agreed on. Later in the evening on a call, I was informed that I could be let go at the end of the week so I decided to jump the gun and resign as it seemed very sketchy to me at this point.

He called me back saying they wouldn't pay me as I resigned without completing the month or a notice period. Can they legally do so if the appointment letter hasn't mentioned one or anything about the pay not being given?

He wants me to send him an apology letter and work till the end of the month (with no contract.) I worry they won't pay me at the end of the month either.
