Hi All, When we tried implementing dress code policy in our company. But we are facing so much of resistance from employees..they feel productivity is only important.company can't insist them on Dress code. They compare with Google Amazon company when it comes to follow the dress code.. can any one help me how to handle these kind of people and ensure they follow our Policies.
Thank you..

Dear Saritha,
You wanted to implement the "Dress Code Policy". But then what changes did you bring? Did you find out which part of the dress code is objectionable?
Yes, dress code is important and most of the service industries have a dress code. Even most of the salespersons also have a dress code. However, to which industry your company belongs? Generally, employees from IT, BPO, Financial Services industries frown at the dress code.
Generally acceptance of the dress code also results from the social milieu. Earlier most of the men were well-shaved. But now having a stubble or even a beard is common.
Thanks,

Dear Saritha,
Your industry is famous for having an informal working style. The employees do not like the imposition of any rules. Most of them are well-educated and knowledgeable too. Nevertheless, a little do they understand that education or possession of knowledge does not make one wise.
Against this backdrop, you could have called the town hall meeting and explained the importance of the dress code. You could have told that for the want of proper dress code, it is impacting grooming standards which in turn, projects a wrong brand image of the company.
Thereafter, you could have invited the suggestions on having a dress code. Since this is a beginning, you could have implemented what was being agreed by the majority. You could have repeated this exercise after a year or two to elevate the standards of the dress code.
With this participative management style, you could have overcome the resistance from the employees. I doubt whether you had taken the employees into confidence. Since they were not taken into confidence, you had to face the backlash.
Thanks,

For a corporate atmosphere, if the employees are impeccably groomed, this will have a positive effect in the working atmosphere. For this, a proper and decent dress code plays a vital role.
Talk to your senior exectuive and with the help of him, organize a meeting with all your employees (Let the top executive address the gathering) and convince them the need to observe a proper dress code. Also convince the management to bear price of clothing and stitching charges of uniform. This will have a positive impact on employees and shall definitely agree to observe dress code of the company.
