Hi, There is scenario wherein I am confused as to what my role is:
Scenario:
One of the production team members sends me (HR) a mail about a leave request for 2 weeks. the mail is forwarded to the Reporting Mgr with cc to the MD for approval. MD disapproves but the Reporting Mgr approves.
Whose decision stands?
The situation is the employee is working on an on-site assignment which is at a crucial stage (assignment to be completed & closed in a month's time), hence leave request cannot be honoured (according to MD) According to RM, there have been no prior leave requests, hence the request needs to be considered and hence approved.
Because of the clash in their views, I asked the RM to discuss the same with the MD (since it was a Saturday and the leave request was for a period commencing the following Monday) and update asap so could accordingly inform the employee, which however did not happen. Meanwhile I informed the employee that his leave request is yet not confirmed and that he communicate with the RM directly before leaving as the next day was a Sunday.
However, the employee went off on leave and the RM says I should have intimated the employee of the leave not being approved by the MD.
Please advise, what should I have done? Look forward for your suggestions.
Thanks & Best Regards
