What does prefix & suffix leaves mean, when is it applicable and how a employee is beneficial with it?

Dear Ms.Tapaswini,
You know well that there are different kinds of leave such as casual leave, earned leave etc., applicable to employees. There are chances for holidays such as national and festival holidays, weekly holidays during which the entire establishment remains closed falling just before or after the spell of leave applied for by an employee. The employee can avail of such holidays along with the Leave applied for subject to the maximum limit of absence at a stretch if any prescribed under the Leave Rules of the organization. If such holiday falls just before the first day of the Leave and the employee asks for permission to be away from the work place to avail of the holiday, it is called "prefix" and if the holiday falls consecutive to the last day of the Leave applied for, it is called "suffix ". Both the prefixing and suffixing of any holidays to the leave spell requires the prior approval of the Leave sanctioning authority. Otherwise, such days would be treated as unauthorized absence and may entail proportionate salary deduction.

Observed prefix and suffix clauses in some leave rules. Basically this is to control the leave availing and is not a benefit to employee when enabled.
Prefix means "add (something) at the beginning as a prefix or introduction."
Suffix means "A suffix is a letter or a group of letters attached to the end of a word"
In leave rule, some companies state for example " Absence limited up to 8 days excluding prefix,
suffix and intervening holidays. But prefix, suffix, intervening holidays shall not be counted as CL"
Another example is " if you take Friday through Monday off, you will use up four days of leave, while taking Friday through Sunday off will use up only one day of leave. This is the prefix/suffix holidays provision."
