Dear Arjun,
The employee went for the delivery as a part of his duties. It was not his personal visit. The incident has happened in the course of duties of the person who did delivery (not delivery boy, please use proper designation while explaining the incident on the public forum. Therefore, you are responsible for whatever happens in the course of his duties.
Your right approach would have been to take him to the nearest police station and lodge complaint against those who caused physical harm to your employee. In case if there were injury marks on the body then these should have been recorded. If the incident is old and injury marks are subsided then the crucial evidence has been allowed to lapse.
Your concern about tarnishing the image of the company is misplaced. By standing for the rights of the employees, how your company's image can get tarnished is not understood. Your company's business not just depends but developed because of the employees. Now when they are trouble, your company cannot shrug it's shoulders off! If you stand for the employees then image of the company will be improved in the eyes of the employees. Therefore, if you think that company's reputation can be built by remaining silent then it this reputation might come at the expense of the employee satisfaction. Please note this fact also!
Thanks,
Dinesh Divekar

Before complaining try for any CC footage available covering the area and then go for complaint.
The complaint may be lodged by individual person with the help from company. Your support is very much important in this situation, which will improve trust on your organisation, where you are protecting your employees by all means.

The employee should be supported in full.
This will send a message to the other staff that company cares.
Your company reputation will go up by positive acts of support.
The incident of beating up will worry other staff also.
So your help reassures other staff and becomes useful for the "delivery boy" as he may not be aware of law/evidence act etc.

OK its clear case of attack and manhandling on a humanbeing by group of people. Lodge a case against them nearby police station as well as your company facts happened... there... through mail.
As the attackers are not known to the suffered employee, police will conduct enquiry and also conduct identitification parade...it is always safe to take moral support from higher cadres of ur company.
If we r correct no exact information is provided by you. Unless there is a provocation either this didn't happen..
Hope police will give protection in the duty going employees..
