Iam running a house keeping unit. In some it companies the management is not allowing my employees to work on holidays, including sundays without uniform as number of people are very less. so please clarify me whether it is, compulsory to wear the uniform on holidays. The uniform is a over coat the summer in chennai is very heavy.

The purpose of wearing uniform at work by employees is manifold depending up on the nature of work such as easy identification, safety, elimination of cross-contamination threats, money savings to employees, creating team-spirit, creation of professional image etc. Therefore, whether it is a working day or holiday, whenever an employee is required to work either within the premises or outside he has to wear the uniform prescribed and the strict compliance expected of by an employer in this regard can not be found fault with.

Dear Unicare,
The last sentence of your post reads "The uniform is a over coat the summer in Chennai is very heavy."
Now the question arises whether housekeeping workers wear the overcoat from Monday to Friday? Is weight of the overcoat is less on these days but more on Saturday and Sunday?
As stated by Mr M Umakanthan, company uniform gives distinct identity. If housekeeping employees are expected from wearing the uniform then what if the security guards also ask for exemption from wearing the uniform on Saturday and Sunday? After all in the personal clothing, a person has a better looks. Who would not like to look better?
The argument will go on. Therefore, the saner or discreet option is to abide by the rules of your client. However, if the weight of the overcoat hampers the work during certain activities, then exemption may be asked on case to case basis.
Thanks,

Dear querist,
Your question raised is meaningless and trifle and deserves no reply. Still learned members have shared their precious views.
It is very basic that while on duty, whether on normal working day or on holiday, the contractor's or company workers must wear the specified uniform. This matter is not questionable. It is intrinsic part of disciplined way of working.
This forum is not meant
for answering such stupid questions.
