I think that for the state of Maharsashtra, there is one Bombay Shops and Commercial Establishments Act which provides for the service conditions of employees working in shops etc. Then what is the significance of this new Act with a new title? Is it scrapped or still live?

The Bombay Shops and Establishments Act is now known as Maharashtra Shops & Establishments Act with some modifications in provisions of the old act and thus the Bombay Shops & Establishment Act is not in existence now.

Yes as right said by Mr. Sasikumar now Maharashtra shops act will replace bombay shops act and also going to be expanded all across Maharashtra which was not completely available earlier.

Normally whenever a new Act is passed with a view to replace another Act, the same will be mentioned in the new Act. That is why I raised the question. Another thing is that still in the website there is Bombay Shops....Act though in the title it is Maharashtra Shops...Act.

Dear shri Madhu,
Yes.Your observation is correct. However sec.39 of the new Act(the Maha.Shops Act) says on and from the date of the commencement of this Act, the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments Act shall stand repealed. In my view, it shall be the Bombay Shops and Establishment Act that shall stand repealed.Probably a clerical error.

There is no clerical error. The word 'Bombay' in large number of Acts has been replaced by the word 'Maharashtra' by an amendment Act long back.
The Rules framed by the Govt under the new 2017 Act are not available on the website. How the Govt can make the Act effective from 19.12.2017 without the Rules in place? If anyone has copy of the same, please share.
Thanks
