Workshop on Gender Sensitisation and Awareness of Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act 2013
Dear Colleague,
Making work a safe place and creating a culture of respect is the responsibility of every employee. Often employees are not aware about appropriate and inappropriate behaviours that constitute harassment. Employees in organization exhibit different behaviours. In an organization people come from diversified backgrounds and cultures. The behaviour pattern exhibited by one employee may be considered inappropriate by the other. Managers are not equipped to spot inappropriate behaviours in the team or handle a harassment complaint effectively. To add to the problems, many companies still do not have a policy and an ICC (Internal Complaints Committee) against sexual harassment, as mandated by the Anti-Sexual Harassment Act of 2013 and Vishaka Guidelines. This could lead to many problems such as a hostile work environment, employees not feeling safe, bullying, decreased morale and bad reputation for an organization. It is important that all employees, managers and ICC go through quality training in the area of POSH. When I say Quality training i mean classroom training as unfortunately POSH training's are conducted as web based training which is just a tick in the box. Sexual harassment deals with a very important aspect of human emotions and the laws relating to the issues surrounding the same. Even till date many cases in the organisation goes unreported. I would like to offer customized training program for sexual harassment at work place and make an attempt to create a culture of respect in your workplace.
