Dear Ve-Ni,
As for as training on communication is concerned, most of the time the focus is always on personal communication. Nevertheless, while working in the organisation, more than communication, non-communication is a big problem. Therefore, the focus should be on how to create a grid of communication where there is a free flow of communication - upward, downward and sideways.
Organisations incur a huge cost of non-communication. Therefore, identify the instances of non-communication in your organisation and find the cost of the non-communication. Organise the training programme based on this. The measurement of ROI on the training would be the cost of non-communication before the training and after the training.
Nevertheless, personal communication is important. Its importance cannot be undermined in any way. However, rather than wasting the time on conducting the training on this topic, just provide the material and let the employees learn on their own. After all, learning the principles of communication is not rocket science. These can be very well be learnt on one's own also.
My above suggestions are against the grain of what happens in the training industry. Nevertheless, I do not wish you to commit mistake of other HR/Training professionals. Hence the suggestion.
Thanks,
