Hi all,
Can anybody guide me that whether there is a govt. guideline under Karnataka Shops and Commercial Establishments Act for minimum basic salary? Here I am not talking about minimum wages. The question is for minimum basic salary for employees.
What % of total salary shall be given as Basic salary?
Is there any rule which says that minimum basic should be 50% of the total / gross salary?
Thanks,

In my opinion Act does not speak about quantum of basic salary.

Please refer to Minimum Wages comprising of basic & VDA applicable to Shops & Commercial establishments in karnataka based on category of Employees. The Salary mentioned therein should be adhered to.Fixation of Salary does not come under the purview of Shops & Commercial Establsihments Act.

Basic Salary is the integral part of Minimum Wages. Mr. Gera rightly said, quantum us Basic Salary isn’t scripted in Act.

As per law, you need to follow minimum wages as applicable to your state. There is no other specification of percentage to be followed for basic in gross salary. Also, it is being mostly followed in market to take 50-60% on an average of gross salary while calculating basic salary.
