Hi all the seniors,
Im facing a problem of dissatisfaction of the employees in my Company, mostly are dissatisfied with the rules I have made for maintaining the discipline in the office and maintaining the proper time schedule.I have converted days into hours and decided to give salary accordingly ,the individual giving more hours will get paid 1.5times for each extra hours but those giving less hours will get deducted salary for each hour. This is not acceptable to few,i have implemented the rule from this month, but not deducted the salary only shown the calculations to the emloyees....two of them asked to deduct heir salary as they thought that the comany is obliging them by not deducting 2 or 4 hours salary.so they returned the deducted amount to me.....Im not able to convince them and very confused how to return this amount to the manager.do give me some adivce,i dont want to disappoint the employees and insult my bosses either.

Dear Fauzia,
As per the Act, you cannot compel any employee to work more than 8 hrs. in special cases it may do but for that you have to pay overtime to employees. What I feel is this kind of enforcement will occasion harm rather good. This way will not make them disciplined rather you should work out other things for the same. Lest you should lose your employee by this way.

HI Fauzia
I think the response you are getting from the employees is very much apt for the system that you have implemented. Don't get me wrong. What is important for the company is the contribution from the employees and not the
time spent at the office. There may be some who in order to get more salary will just sit back late, while others may work during the regular hours and finish off the work on time.
Now its up to you to decide whether you want employees who make timely and valuable contribution to the company or those who just spend long hours in the office using all the available facilities..........

Even I agree that merely staying late does not mean productive work has been done during either normal working hours or thereafter. Let the normal overtime rules remain, with the supervisor validating the need for overtime.
Do not deduct money for people who are coming late or leaving early, but if this happens for say, three times a month, deduct half a day's CL (a suggestion).

Dear Fauzia,
I think the rule you have made is not feasible, employees are quite smart niow a day. Dont make rule based on hours of working, but assign the task and check the performace on monthly or quarterly basis. make your system KRA based or performance based.
With the rule you have made, an employee can be in office during the working hours but may not be working, We should look at the productivity of an employee.
Now you will face a problem how to take back the rule you have made? I suggest you cal a meeting with employees from different department and make them understand that the rule you have made is to check the productivity. create some measures & deliverables to define their task.
All the very best
