Yes, You must have GRN to receive the goods at factory after job work. also material should be recorded at Inward register maintained at gate (if any) GRN is proof of document that goods has been received back after job work for verification by excise department.

I Cann't understand clearly,
suppose we assume that there are 10 processes in a manufacture of "X" Item.first 4 processes takes place in our factory for 5th process it step out from our factory and remaining(6th to 10th) processes are takes place in our factory.my question is.., we sent our semifinished "x" item for job work and we received it after complition of 5th process then we raise GRN FOR this?
somebody told me that "there is no need to raise GRN Why because it is still in semifinished stage, if we received it in the form of final product we can raise GRN". HOW FAR IS THIS STATEMENT TRUE?

Mr. Swami, The GRN is a documentary evidence of receipt of goods in the factory but I don't know the volume, size of your organisation or applicability of Central Excise etc. If the goods are excisable, you are legally required to keep the documentary of in / out of your materials at any stage.

Mr. Swamy,
Very obviously you have to raise a GRN. For the simple reason because while sending the goods out for processing ... Case1- you would taken out(reduced) from stock, otherwise you can't take it out.in which case when it comes back you have to make GRN. Case 2- Already rejected goods during inspection to sent back to Supplier or some one else, so again on receipt you have to make a GRN. Case 3-Semi finished goods received from x to be sent for further processing and received back- Again you have to make a GRN. Many other cases can be there, b ut GRN is a must- Mind you it's like accounting for money in the form of material.Only thing is after the GRN is made it may get into different stores through IQC depending on your types of processes- like semi finished, to go to ware house directly, for projects etc etc.
