Hello Seniors,

I am working with an IT Company as an HR Manager,

There are two employees in our office and they both are working as BDE. (One male and one female)

Their sitting is just beside my cubical. and i see them always whispering, gossiping and laughing almost for 6 hours in a day. Somehow they irritates me. And that female employee is used to laugh loudly.

Now, when i drawn attention of my director , he said he will take care of this matters, actually they both are doing good with their work and director feels that they are good employees and well professional too. And whatever they are discussing , it is related to their work only. But it's not like that.

But somehow they ignore my presence and continue their chit chat whole day, even i have shown them doing flirt with each other, they go out during office time to have icecream or snacks anytime without informing me.

When i say this to my director , he does't take it seriously and even dont take any action.

I feel that even if i have power as an HR manager though i couldn't do anything in this matter. and the fact is that I can not even focus on my work due to this.

Can anyone suggest me what should i do in this situation.

Hi Rutvi,
If you think their working style is disturbing, here are your options:
a) You have to see if you can change your seat
b) You can request or remind them again and again to maintain low volume
c) You can use cotton pads for your ears
d) Convince your seniors to take some action
Unfortunately, they are not doing anything which can be called as ‘Unprofessional’. Moreover, their boss seems to be happy with their work.
If you think they are doing anything which is against company culture or norms, then you got to collect evidence regarding it. May be CCTV or Audio recording of their loud behavior, might help. You need to take approvals for that.
I have been in a similar situation and I opted for change of my work station. I was fortunate to get a new and peaceful work station.
I hope and pray that you get a resolution for your situation! Till then, make some noise and disturb them… (on a lighter note)…:)

Hi Rutvi ,
That's quite common in all corporate. Before the suggestion I just remind you that " EVERYONE IS AN EMPLOYEE" . Right from the Director till the house keeping. We cannot force anyone to do anything.

Continue ...
1. No matter if they hispering, gossiping and laughing almost for 6 hours in a day or even 23 hours for the day as long as they are completing the work. In my case , As a Lead , i do not disturb any my employees as long as my work is getting done.

2. So, we cannot project those points as a powerful weapon instead you give them a chocolate on a day when they were calm at least an hour less than the previous day. This is how you can play a diplomatic role to express how you feel, slowly request them ( AT ANY CAST DO NOT SHOW CASE YOUR POWER) to be quite at cubical.
3. Even then , if its prolonging then send out an official email to the Manger / Director - CC - Ur Director's Reporting Manager and the two employees and explain them that the entire environment might be spoiled if we are not taking any action. The mail should resemble like WARNING and not complaining.
Hope this Helps :)
Thanks
Jai

Hello Jai,
Thank you very much
Yes, you have given me a good solutions, but i am afraid if it would work or not.
But can you please tell me something more about "This is how you can play a diplomatic role "?
How can i play diplomatic role other than giving them a chocolate for being calm.
I am eager to know something know about this. so that 'THE SNAKE GETS KILLED BUT THE STICK DOESN'T BREAK'
Looking forward to receiving your favorable reply

Hi Good Morning !!
Yes , it will work .
Give them a chocolate and say
Guyz ! You ppl are juz amazing ! You slowly turning to be too good .. In all ways .. And am so happy that you Made my day as well.. Coz .. The one hour when you guyz were calm .. I can concentrate very well on my work and thus
Completed a task successfully .. And got appreciation for it.
So here is the chocolates.. Expecting the same in future !!
This is a diplomatic way of telling them they are disturbing others .. With which they couldn't work properly and the polite way of asking them to their moth :)
Jus try it out and lemme know :) Hope it will help !!
Thanks

Hmmm..... A great discussion going on.....

But let`s just flip the coin and see the other side....

Warning truth might hurt.....

You presented a fine example of our ME society.

I don`t now why but i can sense a Jealous, immature Hr Manager, with her/ his own insecurities to work on.

Read you own line care fully and you would understand

(I see them always whispering, gossiping and laughing almost for 6 hours in a day. Somehow they irritates me)

(They ignore my presence and continue their chit chat whole day, even i have shown them doing flirt with each other, they go out during office time to have Icecream or snacks anytime without informing me).......Is this the real problem? NO i would say!!!

I just read some one suggested recording....Ha Ha Ha too funny....(This is how the leader are made by career coaches)

What I say might provoke some diplomatic AH but I don`t go on saying but the feeling behind those :-

you complaints twice...

They still ignore you...

You want to concentrate on your work but somehow you always focus and think about them

You want some action taken against them (I think get them fired)

You took such a petite issues to your higher management.....Too Funny and too childish....And we think who is that drop a pin companion?

You started your post with how to deal jerks..... I thought some thing serious.. but highly disappointed..If i would have been you, Leave it.....

My suggestion : Just be little bit more mature... have peace

Hey I would suggest you to also involve with them and work in a fun environment and since they laugh always you can also do the same. It will improve your health too. Do not take me in funnier sense. I myself do lots of fun in my cubicle and its a good way to spend the day in office. It keeps the environment employee friendly, fresh and motivating.

Dear Rutvi,
If you really feel that they have lot of time in hand and wasting it, why cant you overload them with work if possible. This could probably reduce their chit chat times and eventually involve in work.
Or you could inform your director politely stating they have lot of potential henceforth we could utilize them completely rather than they are wasting time in unofficial matters.
