Hi all,
I am an HR professional, with 3yrs+ experience. I am from Delhi. I got married in 2012 & migrated to Bangalore. After marriage it took me some time to get settled here & then I started looking for suitable HR job for me. I gave around 10 interviews, from which 2 companies called me, but due to the distance problem I didnt join there. After this in my very next interview I got selected & since it was near to my place I joined the company.
But my bad luck.. that its going to be 3rd month ending & I am really not enjoying working here. Since the day I joined till now, there is nothing that has improved herein this company.
Being from IT companies, I have got a totally reverse environment here. Here are some features about my company:-
* No female around, only 1 receptionist (that too Kannadiya, not from North.. :( )
* My manager is not a social person, he rarely interacts with me.
* Not even a single person around who I can talk with to freshen up my mind..
* In pst 3 months there's nothing I can count on that I learnt here..
* Every day I have to look for some work to do, not much work..
* After 2nd half keep looking at the clock to struck 5:30 so that I can go home..
* My 70% time here is spend sitting searching for some HR related work or reading some articles etc, if dont get work.
* I feel like an alien here, since M from North & all are Kannadiya around...
Now after going through all these phases, in past 3 months, I really feel it like waste of my time working here. I cant sit idle , doing nothing & then at the end of the month take salary..
Is this justice to myself??
However, Now I have updated my cv on job portals, not not getting much calls.
So friends, anyone, please suggest me should I quit it without getting any other opportunity? or keep working here in these conditions & simultaneously trying for jobs?
What would be the best solution in this case? Your advice will be very valuable for me. Please guide My Seniors. Plzzzzzz, M in great dilemma.

Hi
i would suggest you to wait till you get an offer. Because there will be so many question raised if you attend an interview without having a job. There are plenty of oppurtuinity and the days are gone where employers knocking your door and now you to knock their door by identifying suitable opening through sources.
Second thing am not sure which sector are you in. There are so many ways to prove yourself in an alien envrionment. One of my friend who joined a retail sector has the similar scenario where she is only female in the company with 150 employees. But she somehow managed and for the past two years she is getting the Best HR award in the group for implementing various programmes and implementing the policies given by the corporate. So checkout whether you can do something in that place like training, conducting stress breakers or employee interaction session and so on. Not here to say only training but this will help you to think and deliver and for sure you will have the satisfaction. Think twice and take a decision. End of the day its all yours..

Hi,
Thanks a lot for your response. Much appreciated. I am in an Engineering & Construction company. We have factory & head office here in Bangalore. Strength is around 60 ppl, not much. & in my Deptt. only 3 ppl, who are of same age group, i.e., 35+, I sit isolated in my cubical.
Its a 1 man show, so have to wait for the MD fofr weeks & weeks to get approval for implementing anthing.. dts the tragedy..
I believe Retail sector is much glamorous than this Engineering firm..
However I really appreciate your friend a lot, that she fought with all. But her's must be some immediate boss & ppl around her must be social. Here no 1 is social like me..:(

Dear Priyanka,
Others have given you the same advice that I would have given: stay in a job and seek other opportunities. Let me give some examples how others have dealt with similar issues. I know of people who migrated to other parts of the world and within India to places other than other their birth place. People who migrated to Bengal, for example, learnt to speak Bengali to converse with the workers and made success of their jobs. People who migrated to the UK, had to learn how to speak slowly and clearly in English.
I know of others, who were in a similar situation to yours in terms of not having enough work to keep them occupied for the whole day. One walked about within the organization observing what went on to understand the work situation, before coming up with solutions. I know of a lady who started work as a Technician in a college, who did not hesitate to work as a stand in for a clerk in the Head of Department's office. The HOD recognized and potential and asked her to teach part-time and eventually she quit to train as a teacher and became a successful teacher. She was the only Indian lady in a all male Civil Engineering Department. She was a social animal and mixed with everyone.
As a migrant to the UK, who has experienced some of the things you are going through, my advice is stick with your job, learn how to speak Kannada rather than expect others to speak to your language. People will appreciate the effort that you are making and will help you. Whether we enjoy our work or not will depend upon our reaction to the situation. Dear Priyanka Tiwari,
You have been in the company just for 3 months and 3 months is very short time period to judge any job and time period. From your post I have concluded that you have actually only 2 issues. Number One You are getting adjustment problem and you are struggling with workforce diversity.
Dear Priyanka,
When it comes to job and career we have to bear lots of thing in order to drive our career roaster towards success. Your problems can be solved by taking simple measures.
For communicating others in your office you have got good suggestion from Nashbramhall.
For not having female colleagues, I have only one suggestion for you. If you have left your home for pursuing career and doing job then you should forget about gender differences to some extent. Other wise you cannot move in male dominating society.
For not having much work: You are new that is why you do not have burden. You will be assigned assignment after sometimes, till then try to observe the work environment at your office, try to learn work procedures, try to get knowledge how other employees keep them busy.
Your last problem of leaving this job:You said yourself that you are not even getting interview call then what is the point to leaving this job? start searching new job but keep this one in hand. If you have not
