Dear Surjeet: The WC Act has metamorphosed into Employee Compensation Act 1923 from 18.01.2010. The Schedule II of the Act lists the persons included in the definition of 'employee' as per the Act. There is no mention of employed persons in the educational institutions therein. So they are not included. KK

Surjeet,
EC Act is applicable not to specific establishment, but to persons employed in certain employment.It is applicable to employees engaged in the following employment even if it is an education/commercial establishment or hospital .
1.construction,maintenance ,repair or demolition of buildings,
2.work on any overhead electric line etc,
3.generation of electricity,ie generator,
4.felling or logging of trees,
5.driver,
6.horticultural activity,
7.pumping of water,
8. tube well,
9.maintenance of electrical fittings,
10.watchman,
This the list as per Kerala.Other states also have similar additions.
