I could sense the heat... But, unless the organization and the people understand the importance of HR in the premises, you will... rather we will be treated such. We have no other option. Do you think thre is a way to change this? It might be little valued in SME's but not in MNc's.

"Easier said than Done", have you heard of this saying? Especially if you reply to the benefits of any person the HR's said to be good and the best to their conclusions. What of the rest? Of course, you become BAD.
Have down pat that HR has to bind in no emotions, weigh the distincts alternatively. carefully judge and most importantly leave or quit the situation. Maintaining good terms with everyone is not a solution, if your are perspiring for a hard name then you are stuck!
A good sense of humor is necessary to a HR coz curtailed to areas with reactions will serve the HR being good.

HR has a bigger role to play in mitigating the challenges by creating appropriate capabilities across the industry/sector. Without challenges there is no beauty and future in profession.
So do not afraid to face difficulties.

Actually the bigger prospect of role is to define what actually we are??....Are we enforcers, transactionalists, facliitators or mediators?
and if we have to play all these roles cumulatively what should be the changes in attitude & check points to be taken into account. I am not afraid of being called "Harsh" or like dictator but by the time difficult to implement things come over surface very fast than an idea advocating clear-cut welfare of employees. So probability of negative perception is high.

This is a very interesting topic, one can pen a book on this, in fact most books on the subject deal with this topic.
Those that have gone through their MBA in HR will remember what the books say as to the role of HR.
HR is an activity that links employees to Management/organization. HR facilitates the practice of rules pertaining to employees with respect to their work environments, their compensation and growth. HR is supposed to devise policies that will keep employees happy in their work as thus with the organization.
The role of an HR is well defined in MNCs however, sadly, yet true this is not the case in Local organizations. They are used to recruit and police the employees, they are made to be the BAD boys. In such organizations just to keep their jobs those in HR toe the line of management even if it is detrimental to employee well being.
A good organization will have a strong HR group that can advise management on employee well being and growth.
HR function is more of a people management work since they are in close touch with employees and management.
They must be strong and able to convey their thoughts to management is they feel that things are not going as they should. If the HR group acts as lackey of management then there is no hope.
One has to be very tactful when dealing with management. In fact they should try and mold management towards the better way of dealing with employees. This is "easier said than done" but needs to be done.
I trust all in HR will try and be as good as they can without any threat to their jobs.

You are very much fed-up with your organisation, Actually HR is a bridge between Employee n Employer, you have to balance, If you are unable to balance the situation you are not perfect for HR Dept.

Dear Manish ,
Really you said it .
Even i have started feeling that HR is crushed in between the organisation
and employees.
HR literally manages everything , takes risk, he is a pool between the management
and the employees .He thinks about the employees at the same time things
about the organisation also .BUT at the end of the day he is Not appreciated for
his work or many organisations still feels that HR is not a productive department.
I am working as Manager - HR i recommend to the management regarding the increment
of my subordinates but when it comes my increment NO one is there to recommend .
It is the fact that HR is a sandwitch between the management and the employees .

Human Resource is and will always remain the single most important resource amongst all other available resources. The importance of this can never be highlighted as it is felt in any action that happens in the corporate world. We can only make it more gracious and dignified by our professionalism, humility and brilliance. So let's move on and be proud that we are a part of such vital force that runs an organization.
Wishing everyone a very splendid day !!
