Hello Senior, Hope all are doing good. Respected Senior, I am working in a Manufacturing unit as a HR Executive . As per our company Policy salary is revised in the month of April but in these days the process is going on to revise salary. So few days back i discussed with Executive Director (who is all in one ) about salary increment then he asked me about my exception. So What Should I Say ? Please Share ideas.

Conditions are as given:

1. My Date of Joining is 17 April 2012.

2. I am only one in HR Dept working as Executive .

3. Total Men Power is 300 including Contractors in my unit.

4. My qualification is MBA (HR).

5. My Current Salary Is 12 K.

6. My Relevant Experience is 8 years but in HR domain 1 year 1 Month.

7.Company is located not in Metro City.

8. Total turn over of company is 1500 Crore.

So Please Suggest what should i do ?

I do not know the reason that a person with around 8 years of experience would join a company at 12000 salary.
Apart from that specifically I didn't understand your point no 6 -
"My Relevant Experience is 8 years but in HR domain 1 year 1 Month."
All things kept aside, it is just one year of your joining the HR and your firm.
From 12000 to 20000 is a very big jump.
Ideally during appraisals, you will get around 10% hike. Even if you are changing job you get around 10-20% hike depending on the experience, profile you handled, and other various conditions.
So ideally an expectation of 15000 seems quite realistic to me and if it is negotiated, you can bring it down to 14000 which would be close to 20% hike.
Please understand that once you are experience people do expect you to be realistic in quoting your expectations as per industrial standards.

Hi, Jagdish,
Its really surprising that your company's turnover is 1500 crore but still hr dept has only one person hats off to your company management for managing it.
My humble opinion is if you consider 1 year experience in HR I think Ankita has given better solution.
But still I feel that your company's turnover is really huge you must ask for better package.

Thanks for prompt reply.
First thing I Have over all 8 Years exp.not in HR its is in Education Field as a Coordinator so i started as a fresher in HR so i joined in 12000.
Second Point You got by explaining First point.
Third as per my last year performance i am sure Management will agree to pay me 15000.and also agreed to recruit a person who will assist me .
But my purpose is to know Market value of a HR in this Situation whatever i explained .
so that i can take a realistic Decision.

Thanks for the clarification.

I think when we are in a need to change our jobs - either for the switch in profile or other reasons, we give value to one thing and compromise on other.

Hats off to you to have the guts to re-initiate the career path.

That's very nice. I believe your firm started the HR department with you. I am currently into your shoes and can feel how priviledged the opportunity looks.

I am sure since you've mentioned that you have 3 units they might now want to hire another person in HR and obviously would be reporting to you as you have handled things for past one year.

If you are positive that the management would agree and would be willing to pay you 15, what bothers you?

As per the industry standard it is more than decent hike. Infact more than average hike.

Again it would depend on you.

I mean for me I would not have started my career with 12 because I know appraising would be an issue.

But again it all depends on how the job profile is.

All you can do is sit with your management and try to figure out the appraisal.

The best you can quote is 18. So that even if you negotitate it wont drop beyond 15.

The management may try to negotitate if they are planning to hire an assistant. But once you train the person and collectively bring better results, there would be good growth both for you and the new person.

You have very clearly and transparently placed your mind. Good.
In fact, Ankita has given you the best solution.
The best thing, according to me also is "All you can do is sit with your Executive director and try to figure out your appraisal process, soon."
Then, it all depends on the management's demand on you to continue in their employment. If they like you they might indicate this perhaps directly. If not, the moment they show demand, employer will look for other options. Its not very difficult to get HR executives with MBA qualification and some experience. Hence my advise is that, if you are not contented with the job, try to stick on and get experience in HR area. This exposure is a must for further good employment opportunities.
Don't worry about the market demand now. Best of Luck
