Hello Dear Members,
I am very new here and would like some valuable advice regarding my career.
I am presently doing my PGDM (distance) from a reputed institute and would like to know if I should join an H.R. Training Courses in Delhi, NCR which give a 1 months hands-on training. Most of them don't seem a little shoddy..(sorry but it's true). Are there any good one's of repute? Most of them promise job placements but I'm not so sure..
I have no experience in H.R. per se, but have vast industry knowlege in aviation, KPO and adverstising. Yes, I am a late bloomer when it comes to career choices : ) but I know H.R. is my calling. So any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

thanks all and a Very Happy New Year 2013!

What does your hands-on training involve and how much does it cost? If you give those details we may give you a considered response.

Hi Simhan,
The Hands-on-Training would set me back by $300.00, for a 1 month workshop. Which at the of which I would get a certifcate and some training on payrolls etc.. Would you advice it? or should I keep trying my luck at getting an Entry Level Position with any Recruitment Consultant?
Thank you for your time and insight it's greatly appreciated.

Thank you! srinivaskvmk for your encouraging words!

I'm in the middle of my exams therefore the late response. Well like I mentioned before and at the cost of sounding redundant I really want to etch a career for myself in the field of H.R. I have been googling a lot lately and have got a little insight into the vast field.

In future, I plan on doing a cerfification from SHRM Or if possible from CIPD. However, the biggest stumbling block for me is that all these certifications are available only if one has a minimum of at least 2yrs experience in the industry. At the advice of some, I have started looking for jobs as a Recruiter. Here too I face the same dilemma.

The following is my p.o.a. for the comming months:

1. join one of these so called H.R. Training Courses (e.g Asiawebmedia) which give practical training (1month) and a certificate (attended workshop).

2. join an h.r. consultancy firm (e.g. InHusys) during my last semester so I can get my Project work completed and hopefully get placed.

Any guidance would be of great value.

Thank you for taking the time and reading this post.

Dear Seniors I need guidance from you all. I am going to restart my career in HR after a gap of 5yrs due to marriage and small kids. I got an offer from one Recruitment consulting firm. They want to keep my original educational certificate for period of 6months so that I do not leave in between. Although salary is good and I get an opportunity to restart my career, I am not able to decide whether I should join or not as I am concerned what if I get other good opportunity or wanted to leave after 6-7months and they don't give back my certificate. Please Guide..

My sincere advice is do not part with your originals. It’s bad practice and unethical to demand that.

Dear Nidhi_Verma_MBAHR,
The reason for them asking for your original credentials has been mentioned by you. If you do not want to part your certificates, you can offer them with a solution which might convince them to give the offer & at the same time serve your purpose too.
Merely rejecting the offer on the grounds will further confirm your intentions to leave the organization in short duration & lack of your commitment which should not be appropriate for you at this point in time.

they would also be deducting rs 2000per month from salary for a time period of 1year which would be paid to me in total after I complete 1year else would be kept wid them. Wat else I could offer. Please suggest.
I don't have any intension to leave without prior notice and have never done also. but the concern is that they should not harass you for the documents when you want to leave..

Hi Nidhi,

It isn't only leaving without prior notice but also to ascertain that you don't leave BEFORE 6 months. Ideally you should compare the benefits you'll receive if you accept the offer. If the salary is quite handsome, company has good brand, you do not have any other offer as of now, company is not manipulating you for 5 years gap, you'll be able to manage your work-life (as you have a kid now / see if they allow work from home at times in emergency) & across the company if they are following this policy you can verify with their existing employees & not hesitate to surrender. It is a matter of 6 months only & hence it shouldn't be a problem. This does not mean that I am in favor of this policy; you are the one to judge for yourself. Just check with them whether they'll be giving the same in writing to you & what are the terms while returning the certificates. This should serve your purpose before taking the decision.

Feel free to update & let us know your decision too.
