I am Gopal Krishna from Vizag but born and brought up from Calcutta.

I started my career at the age of 25 years old in the year 1997. I was an Arts Graduate and was proficient in Stenography and well versed with computers. But I had to start my career with very low salary i.e., Rs.1,000/- pm as a PA to Marketing manager with a limited company.

You all surprised to know that I had to left 13 companies to grow in my life both financially and professionally. Some of the big companies I worked for are Kirloskar, Garware, Fem Care, Ipca Labs. , Seminis in the secretarial field. You all may accept that in Stenography or secretarial field there is very limited scope to grow professionally even though we are very able and sound in knowledge. It took me almost 10 – 12 years to reach the figure of 25,000/- p.m.

I desperately wanted to change my field of job, so with great difficulty I had studied MBA –HR thru correspondence from IGNOU. And I passed recently. Let me tell you that Ranbaxy was the only company where I worked for almost 4 years, but as I studied MBA – HR, and as I wanted to change my field , I compelled to resign from Ranbaxy and accepted a post as HR Head in one Perfume manufacturing company , head quartered at Dubai. I was responsible for Sales staff, Accounts and Logistics staff of the company. They were 400 employees in the company. Actually to get the job, I compelled to say lie that I had earlier HR experience.

Anyway after joining the company, as HR Head, with same salary of Rs.25,000/- p.m., I was responsible for Pay roll, Recruitment, Filing, PF, ESIC, Performance appraisal, and all other statutory compliances. It was a retail company in Mumbai with its branches at Delhi and Bangalore. I was only one person who was handling the entire group without any assistance. (ONE MAN SHOW).

But to everybody’s surprise, I worked so nicely that no body could doubt about my past experience. I was very updated with everything which is required for the company moreover, I was computer savy. I transferred successfully manual payroll into atomized pay package with accuracy single handedly. Where ever the same package could not have been installed in similar group with my boss as GM – HR and one Assistant manager – HR, Officer HR , one IT person, and one secretary

In view of all these, my boss was so happy with my work and performance that he twice standup from the chair and shook hand with me for my brilliant performance. I was thinking to continue there I worked there for 1.5 year but to my misfortune, I learnt that one receptionist , who was handling all admin work from the beginning , was in a habit of receiving commissions from the vendors illegally. So when I tried to took that in my hand and tried to save the companies money, the lady receptionist was terribly annoyed with me.

So she made a plot against me. She intentionally dashed me slightly while going across me, and started shouting at me as I intentionally dashed her. Seeing the situation, I politely said sorry. But she made this a big issue that my conduct is not good and I intentionally dashed her. My boss came and he was also believing her may be due to some ego problem earlier, because even though he was my boss but HR knowledge is not much , he done diploma in HR, and good in wasting time.

Keeping the above circumstance and also being the fact that it was a muslim organization (partial to hindus), I thought its better to resign so I resigned and walked away.

I though its right time to settle in South , (Hyderabad), as being myself south Indian, so I came to Hyderabad to search for a job. I tried very hard to get a HR job, but I was shortlisted in 3 – 4 places but they were offered only Rs.15,000/- pm and that to with a bond of 3 years, which was not acceptable to me.

So I even tried to get secretarial job and fortunately I got job as pa to chairman in an MNC with a salary of Rs.25,000/- pm. But with a bond for 3 years, but to get this job I compelled to search for 4 months in Hyderabad.

But I am most satisfied to work as a HR person, please advise , what can I do in these circumstances.

Mr.Gopal krishna

You have done MBA- HR through sheer dint of hard work and you have around 1.5 years experience as HR. Most importantly, you appear to be a quick learner, hard worker and computer savvy and above all you have aptitude for HR.I feel you should only continue in HR., because HR is a vast field, providing opportunities for growth and development and diversity and for a man with your strengths, it is only a matter of time. Secretarial profession has no demand now nor any career.Probably you could not attract decent package in the new jobs because of limited(1.5 years) servcie in Hr and probably you did not showcase your strengths and skills properly. What I suggest you is to revamp your CV and focus on your skills like computer skills, communication or drafting skills etc and focus on your achievnments like computerising Hr processes in a record time as you did in your previous organisation. You have taken a fist step forward by doing MBA-HR nad switching to HR and now look forward. all the best.

Dear Friend,
As my Seniors have already mentioned, Pl. fine-tune your C.V. specifying your strengths.
Your search for a Job in H.R. might most probably click if you try for an Admn. Job combined with H.R. activity as Second Line. Try that out.
Further, in my opinion, you should not have run away due the lady's menace.. This is not a positive quality of a H.R. person. Something (Boldness/Courage) is missing in your fire.
All the best.

Dear Mr. Gopal,
You have been pretty persistent as far as ur professional life is concerned. Thats a gd sign.I think you should do some certification courses in HR to make your CV stronger while working with the current company. This way you will not only be in touch with the HR domain but will also not lose on the current job and meanwhile keep looking for a job somewhere.
I wish you all the very best......

Dear Mr.Gopal,

Friends have shared their valuable views and suggestions.

In addition what I have understood from the situation, it shows that you tried your best to grow in your professional life but could not achieve what is in your mind.Following are some of my views :

1 Stability in a particular organisation matters a lot to learn ,implement and review the new techniques.

2 All professional organisation wants and seek stable candidates.

3 Frequent changes in the resumes or fabrication of the credentials may lead to the rejections......moreover the professional world is very small.................

4 Back verifications shall add fuel in the fire...........will lessen your chances to get a good job.

5 People and friends will not extend any help if we frequently change the organisations.

You might be feeling bad..............but my intention to give my views is to help you.

What happened you please forget. You only do consolidation of your resume.......Read and learn all aspects of HR related topics.................

Make all the points of your success during Secretarial Job and HR job.

More importantly your focus is required in a single direction whatever your choosen endevour.

With best of Luck.

Again ,Inconvenience is regretted.

Dear Mr Gopal Krishna,
Some very good suggestions have come from the members.
You should gainfully use them.
It is good to be frank but it will be more prudent to be selective while revealing certain facts.
Please make sure that when you communicate, inform only that is relevant.
You should avoid writing the names of companies.
Please focus on improving your language and work with a resolve
to stay longer in whatever field you choose.
There may be so many unlawful and stealthy practices going on.
We cannot set right every thing as most of them would be beyond our approach.
In addition to that there has to be a support as otherwise it would back fire on you.
That is exactly what happened to you.
One thing that we can surely do is correct and improve ourselves consistently.

Dear ,
Hi,
It's looking really struggled career. As a HR what i have seen in some cases is that they did B.A but after looking not more opportunity in that field they move to technical field like diploma & make career in different way. It's really useful to person.
You have done MBA in HR than you can also start your recruitment consultant if you have good contacts. It does not need huge investment.Hr Job is really effective for whom has planned their career from prior because it is slow steady job.HR Persons get good salary after had handsome relevant Experience ,but you can join any Organization in HR Department as you are looking really good, Talented ,Fast Learner.
This is the best way to get back in to career Journey....
Best Luck Dear for your bright future.....
