To,
Respected sir,
Case is like this :- Our Store department have received 20 Nos. Ammonia cylinders of 50 kgs. capacity each ( temporarily ) under project Job work . they raised the question for ammonia storage safety for these 20 Nos. Ammonia cylinders in store by demanding Sprinklers system provision. but As per Factory act 1963, TAC, IS -2190 we have already provided fire network line with double hydrant protection system( 01 No. ) in store yard area where these cylinders are kept.
My question is that is it essential for only 20 Nos. NH3 cylinders - sprinkler system installation in store yard area is require ? what is ammonia safety rule & what to be done in this type of situation ?
Thanks,

Dear Mr. Purohit,
Factories Act, TAC and IS2190 have not specified the specific fire protection systems.
You shall have to refer to Gas Cylinder rules, read MSDS and compile both the requirements and accordingly make the necessary preventive system.
Ammonia falls under Major Accident Hazard rules Schedule I part II serial number 31 of Maharashtra rules.
You need to have on site emergency control plan under these rules.
You are required to conduct the safety audit from the competent person and comply the suggestions.
I have never used toxic gases hence I may not be able to comment upon the sprinkler requirements.
Alternatively you can find out who else is using Ammonia and find out the safety requirements.
All said and done please update on this forum once you get the authentic suggestion.
Thanks & Regards,
