Actually, there is so much of confusion between recruitment and selection among people. But here mentioned below some points to understand the difference hope they will help you out.
Recruitment is generally to motivate and stimulate the candidate to apply for particular position. This is initial stage where applicants will be applying for particular position of an organization. We can recruit the people through portals,off-campus etc.So,this is positive process in which we are attracting more no. of people as per the given requirement.
On the other hand, Selection is the process where we are choosing the right candidate acoording to roles and responsibilities and also by analyzing the candidate by interviewing whether he best suits the requirement or not. So,We can say this is negative process where we are selecting the right candidate out of total no. of recruited candidates.

Garima is right, as, Recruitment is the process of attracting a pool of candidates towards a job.
whereas,
Selection is the process of choosing the best and most suitable person from that pool of candidates.
Moreover, selection is a two way process. For example, Its not that organizations select a candidates but candidates also select that organization in which they are going to work in future (either they will find themselves fit or not). Therefore, its a two way process!

Recruitment is end to end process for in HR to hire an employee. Starting from planning, sourcing, selection, interview, offer, etc.
Selection is a part in recruitment, after sourcing where you select between available candidates and choose the best one to hire.

I am not having in depth knowledge, but in toto I can say, see the defintion of recruitment and selection you can get in any books, but just telling you as per my knowledge base. Recruitment just piking up the people and selection is when you start taking interviews n all that prelims. Recruitment u can say is just scoutin gos resumes and selection is finding the right person (may be thru PI's or...)
