Dear Member,
There is no such basic rules for HR.The nature or JD of HR differs grately from one company to another company. Only thing that a starting HR should know is understanding the management and the labourers or workers. He should first become bridge between the management and the workers and should organise himself to uncalled situations like solving rifts between the management and labourers or between the labourers themselves and also he should be accomplished in day to day Human resource management like some basic labour laws and how to conduct trainings etc.

HR has no solid rules to be followed but it has it's own Roles & Responsibilities like Recruitment, Training & Development of the employees, Talent Management (broad spectrum u can identify various arms in this like talent identication, catching & placing at a right place), resolve the conflict between employees and employees' employee, Defining salary structures & various percks in collaboration with FD and Salary Negotiations for the employees.

Dear sheetalgoel
Please tell us about yourself. Have you started working recently in the HR deptt. of a company? It is common to find that small or new companies appoint/recruit anyone as HR. You should undertake a study/enrol in a course of HRM. That should clear your doubts. Right now, it seems you do not know, what you need to know.
Warm regards.

HR after 12 years doesnt look to me like a game with rules to enforce. I believe it is a science, where everyday is different. HR is not about just employees, but also about the employer. It is about a healthy organization were there is a win-win situation for all.

There are no do's and dont's. Of course you make this up with your observance and skills. Being a Liquid science, it can shape up to the container it is poured. It would mean, the individual who practises HR can mould this to suit them. If he/she is rigid, then the policies would reflect the character of the individual. If they are diplomatic, so would be the system.

If this certain key department is in the hands of a wrong individual, chances are very many that the organization is losing confidence of its valuable work force and is lacking productivity. So that would be the reason why good companies have their board of directors participate in their HR key decisions.

HR effectively makes the organization process driven, than people driven. It is much more easy for the organization to self sustain in this way, as we all should know, that employees do leave disregard of the organization.

I hope this post does bring some light to your queries. I would suggest if you are a fresher, you really start training yourself under a experienced manager, who would help to build the foundation.

Good Luck.

Well said Mr. Sarath Jain. I concur with you fully. I also add that Basic HR qualification is necessary to get the nerve of HR. May be a short term certificate course will do.
