To find out the attrition rate formulae is:
Total numbers who have left
Attrition Rate : -----------------------------------*100
(Opening balance+Closing balance)/2
To find out the closing balance :
(opening balance+who have joined-who have left)

Attrition is also calculated on an annualised basis. the formula for this is:
Annualised Attrition = (Total nos. of attrition in 'x' months / Average no. of employees for 'x' months) * (12/'x' months)
e.g. Till July 31, 2010 you have totally 60 employees who have attrited and your average manpower for this period was 1212 employees, (financial year considered i.e. April to March period) then your calculation shall be:
(60/1212)*(12/4)

Well,
with this calculation, attrition rate comes on yearly basis only....
If you want to find out on month wise than you have to multiply with 12 means,
Attrition Rate= No. of Employee left / Total No. of Employee for the same time * 100 *12
Same as, With 6 month - *6
I hope this will help you out...
