Hi Safeer,
It would not be advisable to do the competency mapping without studying the Industry you are into. Based on that reserach shortlist and select what competencies are most suitable for that industry and would fit in your company. Based on that information do the mapping work. Otherwise it would be a wasteful and time consuming exercise and would do no good.

Competency Mapping is creating a rocket science of a pocket science and common sense principles... It was always practiced for ages but today a big fuss is being made....
Another view is it is redundant..... If competencies could be so easily replicated we would have a million Michealangelos and Mozarts etc.... Nature has its own secret and talent is a mysterious factor for each to dig deep within himself and discover....
