Hey Guys
Just got a news. Thought of sharing with you. I have just come across a news which says a lady whose husband is working in Wipro. Her husband was going on date with one lady because his company is providing dating allowance to him. Now, she is going to raise questions on her husband as well as on Azim Premji. She wants to ask why dating allowance is there.
Do give your suggestion on this. Is dating allowance bad / good?
Full coverage you can read on Times of India.
Thanks

Hi Sujata,
This new is a week old now and the person who have been taken to court by his Ex wife clearly told the reason why she is doing it.
Dating allowance is given by many companies but then companies may not be blamed for what employees do.
NIIT is one of the companies I know which started giving this dating allowance but there is no case on the company.
If I am given an allowance by our company, it is upto me how I utilise it and not company. It is my character in question if I'm married and still use the allowance to take out some other person on DATE. It is me who should be blamed not the company.
If we keep these things in mind, I can sue my company for providing me telephone allowance.( I can click photographs and can get caught in some scam)
This is all upto our maturity. It is nothing but a publicity gimmick.
Cheers

Hey Archna
Actually this paper was on my colleague desk and I didn't noitce date. I was simply reading the news of Sanjay Dutt :D and suddenly shocked to know the other news which was beside it.
I know NIIT also provide dating allowance as one of my friend is working there.
You are right it is upto a person how he / she wants to use it.
Thanks for your inputs

In my personal opinion - It’s really not fair to blame the company. It’s up to individual how they want to spend the allowance. It is not valid to say that its due to such allowance in place relationship can make or break. If I want date someone even after being married if it’s purely my decision. Just by dating someone really won’t make me unfaithful to my relationship. I also liked few comments –
Some said “Dating is personal”
“If you want to give money, give money. You can't tell people how, when and whom to date and then expect them to submit bills with details of the same”.
I try not to mix personal and professional life, which means if I have partner in the same company. I would try not to interfere with his or her professional space. Follow the code and conduct of the organization and stay away from office gossip. I think we as an individual should know how to balance between work and home. Unfortunately it never happens that way with most of us……

According to Tripti, those companies which do not give dating allowance, there could be absolutely no office romance. Is that true?

It is an accepted belief that office romance tend to affect the employee's productivity especially when the couple's relations turn sour. There is a clear tension between employees when the relation ends, which isn't good for the team. Corporates are not fools that they would bring dating allowance without any reason. There could be some procedure to be followed to procure dating allowance after which the company can determine which employee is seeing who. Company being aware of the employees involved in office romance will be better equipped to handle the situation if the relation begins to affect the productivity.

However, this does not mean all the companies should incorporate dating allowance. But it is a fact that office romance is very common whether a person (man, woman) is married or single. It is also untrue that a person is having office romance only because his/her marriage is in trouble. Perfectly happy married couples too have office romance with others. By saying that happily married couples will not get into office romance is hypocrisy.

Nobody is less here.

hi,

now getting to the point whether dating allowance be provide or not?well, the question that the organization should ask themselves while imolementing such trivial allowances in name of improving morale, productivity is are they not leaving a big gap through which many vices till know unknown to indian work culture creeping into the psyche of the workforce, well as maslow herzberg comes to focus can we safely conclude that this measure will satiate the nerves and be a solution to the HR enigma of productivity.little knowledge do i poccess with regards to various measures that the MNC's are implementing but to implement such borrowed ideas from countries and cultures of which we are not exact replicas, nor should we aspire to be one.but this brings to focus woefully does the HR luminaries in this country are out of touch with cultural ethos of our workforce and the shallowness and the bankruptcy of the their ideas is visible by the way in which they try to implement the borrowed ideas from some alien firms(as far as life style and aspiration and siocial background) on our work force in name of innovation.

what we require to ponder is how well are we the HR fraternity tuned to the demands of our workforce, maybe the the justification to follow on this reply shal be critical , but we shouldn't try to forget that an employee is only the interface of his family and dependents particularly in our country and the actions initiated by organisations to improve productivity shouldn't forget the repercursions it will have on the family dependent on the employee if they do so then they shall do it on their own peril and collective downfall of an entire industry.

thankyou

There is fuss on dating allowance as Ms. Tripti Nigam has misused DV act to harrase Gaurav and his elder parents. She was so annoyed with Gaurav that she decided to drag his family, his company, Mr.Premji and VP-HR in a DV case. Kyon?

It is on the mind set. Any one blame Bed for sex. It is on us to decide what is true?

I will not be surprised if tomorrow some one start blaming WIPRO for paying salary as control of finance is problem in most of the matrimonial cases. Kya ho raha hai? Where are we going?

What we will get after doing all this? If marriage is not working fine take divorce, why to blame company, dating allowance or blaming mother-in-law for giving birth to husband. OR even blaming time when one got married.

Stupid people do not introspects and they also believe that whole word is stupid. Followed whole story and now I conclude men in IT industry will be the biggest victim of new DV act.

What ever is good for my people will remain. I vote for Dating allowance.

All are part and parcel of like.

Sab chalta hai- but Anti-men DV act se desh nahi chal payega- Companies bhi nahi chal payegi...........

Women group's distorted and false propaganda about the status of women in the country is helping modern women a lot. Modern women will do anything they want and still be called a victim and 'abla naari'.

Nobody can deny that these modern women are not like the women of the yesteryears, but still men are forced by the media and such ridiclous laws to look at women like they are from the 14th century. Now grow up, will you?

Modern women are more independent than men. Women's role has changed dramatically. They can pursue any career they want; they can live completely independently without any family obligations, but men still have to live by the societal norms of 'protecting and providing women'. Family life is important but enforcing such biased laws to punish men on a false complaint of a woman is way too much.

Now I have personally met many women who boldly say that "I want a husband who should earn minimum Rs. 2-3 lacs a "month". A month!!!!!They also say, "I am working and earning to spend the money on myself. You are my husband and so you will have to pay for all the domestic expenses."

What is this? Are men any more than a money-making machines? I think not.

Men have "accepted" the obligations toward a woman in the past, which is good. But now the times have changed. Now men need to be given a break from this outdated ridiculous obligations toward a woman especially when women too are independent.

It depends on the individual. The society will obviously won't accept men to live independently. But if a man wants to live in the current century, and wants to live an independent life, then why is the women groups trying to stop him?

Men must now live independently. It is time to reclaim our freedom, our independence. We are men. We can't survive if our freedom is taken away. However, women consider men's freedom as a form of adultery, negligence and carelessness. Let women continue to misunderstand. We don't care.

Freedom and independence is our birth right.
