Hi all,
In an interview I was asked this question
The Trade Unions are not as effective today as they were. (I was not asked whether you agree to it or not) What are the reasons you think have diluted the effectiveness of Trade Unions today??
Can anyone tell me what I should have said?
Regards,
Neeta

Hi Neeta,
There are serveral reasons for the dilution of Trade Unions in our country
Firstly the Government Policies does not favour Trade Unions due to corupt practices
Secondly, in most manufacturing industries one can notice that the labourers have been hired from various contractors and also many IT, BPOs does not approve the policy of Trade Unions and in most of the sectors the work is eihter outsourced to another agency or getting work done through Contract labour in either case the workers working for a particular company are not in the pay rolls of the comapany.
Thirdly, in thepresent scenario the Trade unions have to equip themselves with knowledge rather than holding te industry to a rasnom like strikes or forcing Management for layoffs or lockout.
I have sharged a piece of my knowledge with you

Thankyou Mr.Raghunath. What about large factories that still have many skilled and unskilled workers on their payrolls (i.e not contracted) like Century Rayon or Tata motors???

Hi Neeta
One of the reason for the issue in my perspective is
> The multiplication of trade unions in a same industry. The strength of a trade union rests in its strength of members, if the trade unions are multiplied, they loose their bargaining power Bcoz the members are splitter to many
>Another reason is over political influences over the trade unions
>The trade unions are failing to act on time
