prashant tell me about yourself is a foolish question asked by stupid HR who dont think it is necessary to read the candidates resume.
I have met many so called fools who have asked me such question and I tell them that your life is waste and come out of interview you dont have time to read my resume then what the hell you are HR, they feel insulted but I dont care, I tell go to hell to them.

Dear Ravi,
I wonder whether you really understand WHY this question is asked. There is a definite purpose behind asking this question. And I'm pretty sure that you with that kind of attitude might never have been called for next round of interview.
Good luck for your future endeavours.
Other members, please. I shall be waiting for your comments.

Prashant if you remember your earlier days when you were at startof your career was this question asked, so at that time did not people get good skilled manpower who were loyal,,,
I would request you to think over it ,, ,and stop asking this question from nowonwards and directly talk serious matter with candidates

Ravi and Balaji:
Please think a level ahead.
Your resume is a very carefully written document... usually written my professional resume writers. The person having his resume - rarely sees whats in it. Half of the resume is LIE. Sometimes - the candidates talk entirely different than what they have mentioned.
And while talking and asking the question, your self image is being gauged. It depends on the way you express about urself. If you have nothing much to say more than whats your resume - then I guess u must not be havign a good idea about urself. Its not sensible to expect that someone knows in detail abt you before you step in for interview.
Also the way you explain - lets them know if you are a fit at all - in the first hand.
Your resume will never speak abt u, but spk only abt ur qualifications. It will be baseless if someone just understands u bu ur resume and not by discussing. Before asking / commentign such questions - think a step ahead.
Keep for example if u r submitting ur biodata for marriage purpose... and like the common lie u mention "Hand some ... good looking,... intelligent...smart..." ;-)
And the lady finds out while talking "u r actually not smart like how its mentioned there :-D:-D - just kidding. But I would want you to know how important it is to find it from the person during a one-one chat. Irrespective of the nature of meeting.
----
Prashant:
why not re consdier and include:
Where you are basically based out of
what you did before ur pgdba
What made you chose this career
How successful yyou have been in your career, your contributions (like u say 13 yrs of experience - what have u done in HR , admin areas - liek ur major focus)
What is the task u have been extremely good at and ur areas of interests
SHuld u say u commute everyday to KLM to discharge ur duties? I guess thats understood...

Hi,
Are we talking about HR only asking this question in the interview and getting over with the interview? If that is the case, then that is really stupid.
However, I think that you can ask this question as a good ice breaker and then lead to more technical questions. This is like asking a candidate "What’s up with your life?" and getting the candidate comfortable with you.
Imagine you interviewing a candidate and the first question that you ask is "why are looking out for a job change" or "what were your roles and responsibilities in your previous job?".... there is no human touch to this.
While I would also agree that it becomes very irritating for the job seeker as he has to face the same question at the start of the interview everytime he goes for interview... Maybe HR should ask the same question a little differently every time....
Comments pls....:!:
