Dear Sejal,
The performance management system, performance appraisal system and the evaluating performance of a employee and highly interlinked.
For example, Evaluating the performance of a employee in a organization is performance appraisal. Every company has a different system for their performance appraisal and that system is known as performance appraisal system. This system includes the tools and techniques used by a organization for evaluating the performance.
Performance appraisal system :
Performance appraisal is the process of obtaining, analyzing and recording information about the relative worth of an employee. The focus of the performance appraisal is measuring and improving the actual performance of the employee and also the future potential of the employee. Its aim is to measure what an employee does.
Performance management system
Performance management is the process of creating a work environment or setting in which people are enabled to perform to the best of their abilities. Performance management is a whole work system that begins when a job is defined as needed. It ends when an employee leaves your organization.
As per these definitions, one shall clearly understand that performance appraisal system is a part of performance management system. So, the short answer is that performance appraisal (annual review, employee review) fits under performance management.
Hope this would have given you a small idea on your query

Hi,
thanks a ton for the explanation... i understood the terms....but still have some confusion as my co. had old PMS system which use to represent only soft skills of the employee but then when i join the co. we introduced new PMS system which is very elaborative as it includes KPAs & KPIs so thought will make my project on that but topic of my project is Evaluation of Employee Performance so was thingking how to insert this pms thing in the project as my plan for the project is as below:
1. what is Evaluation of employee performance
2. methods of Evaluation of employee performance
3. importance of evolution
4. how does employee performance affect company
5. PMS and appraisal system is part of evaluation methods
6.Introduction of my co.
7. old pms system & its drawbacks
8. new pms system & its positive points
As we are asked to give recommendations for the faulty system and as i was a part of discussions & implementaion of the new system so it could be my recommendation as well.
Please..please suggest me whether i am on the correct path or would u suggest something on this? or i can add something into above..
Thanks & Regards,
Sejal
