Hi All,
I want to open a general discussion on two simple issues yet they are very important.

1) Many times I have seen project managers to software engineers coming very late to meetings, though they know the meeting scheduled is very important. I also observed that they often walk out in between the meeting to answer their mobiles (or) with some silly reasons.

2) Recently we have organized an office outing at a beautiful resort, we have done interesting events to pull maximum employees to the occasion. But, hardly we could able to gather crowd at the occasion.

I want all the HR colleagues to give their suggestions how we can pull maximum number of employees to the general occasions. After all it is the HR event and we have the responsibility to make it successful.

Conclusion: When I discussed the above two issues with few other HR friends, I got to know that they are also facing this problem. I put this for an open discussion to invite some innovative ideas.

Hi! Sai

1) Many times I have seen project managers to software engineers coming very late to meetings, though they know the meeting scheduled is very important. I also observed that they often walk out in between the meeting to answer their mobiles (or) with some silly reasons.
As meeting is a completely offical matter you can put a policy for that. Like no mobiles allowed in the meeting and no one can go out without completing the meeting. When it comes to the timing i think seniors need to set an example and call all their juniors for the meeting. You can talk to the concerned senior person and do that. And if the seniors are doing the same then just before starting the meeting inform everybody that its going to start. After all this still if they bring their mobiles or dont come on time for the meeting on time for first two times you can warn then and still if it continues you can cease their mobiles till they leave the office and you can keep a note of those employee and look on them during appraisals. You can also inform all the employees that it would effect their appraisal.

2) Recently we have organized an office outing at a beautiful resort, we have done interesting events to pull maximum employees to the occasion. But, hardly we could able to gather crowd at the occasion.
First of all wht you can do is give a good description of the where you would be going and what all exciting things you would be doing. You can also let them know that who ever comes to such occasions would be given a surprise gift there. No need to take anything costly depending on the companies budget. For first time many people might not come but when this thing spreads with all the employees then they would be waiting for the next occasion.

Hope i have helped you out.

HI Sai,
I felt like your problem is quite common. I observed this many times in my organization too. The management pressurizes us to organize some employee recreation engagement activities to make them fresh from their day schedule. We plan, design and wants every one to participate in these programs such as Dinner parties, Birthday parties, festival gatherings(X-mas, new year day, Deepawali, Ramzan etc.), official outings and sports events.
I don't say all the employees but always a segment of employees always oppose will never turn up to the occasions.
The better idea is to see that the employees who are not turning up should identified and be given key rolls to organize these programs.
To some extent we can solve this problem.

Hi Sai,
Chances are there that the employees may not be happy in the company. So, better conduct a Employee Satisfaction Survey in the company and find out whether they are happy and comfortable in the company. Cos, if people are not comfortable and satisfied in the company, they may tend to do so of losing interest in the company.
Once you conduct the survey, and if you find this as one of the reason, try to have a one to one discussion with these people as to why they are not satisfied or any suggessions from them.
I feel you may solve this problem like this.
Thanks,
Best regards,
Srinidhi Prasad.
