Show cause is generaly issued befor the Charge sheet.
It is A chanse given to employee on natural justice law that why did he commited the concerned indiscipline? was is done intentionaly or it was just mistake. He is being asked to respond in stipulated time to show cause.
on the other hand Charge Sheet is a first step decision of the management on the basis of facts available and individuals responese against Show Cause.

Rahul

Dear Friend
What u have asked is different stages under criminal case.
Show Cause stands for show the cause that why any action not be taken against the accused and as told by Rahul it is the principle of natural justice that no body should be condemned unheard.
Charge sheet shows the charges framed against the accused and the charges the accused has to defend in the trial.

Dear mantu,
charge sheet and showcause are issued on the different stages of the misconduct.
Show causes are usually issued before the issuing of the charge sheets based on the facts about his/her misconduct with no witness and the written explanation is asked from the deliquent employee.
Whereas the charge sheet is issued when there is a complaint from the head of the department or the complaint from the witness about his/her misconduct.
