Hi all,:icon1:
This is Ashok, I am making a career change, after 20+ years in sales, to training. Would appreciate any inputs that would help me get started as a trainer. I have joined a HR solutions company as a trainer and am in the process of going through the basic induction training and other coaching programs to bring me up to speed as a trainer. However, any external assistance, however big or small would be most welcome. Any suggested reading or advice?
Thanks,
Ashok

Dear Ashok,
After years of hard core training with MNCs and Training Consulting firms, I suggest you following:
Do not look down upon your participants. They may not know about the subject you are taking today, but they are champions in their own fields.
Use their experience.
Ask them to demonstrate how they will handle a situation.
Involve them in discussions as much as possible.
The best trainers are the ones who use discussions rather than power points.
Lastly, the advice which my guru gave me "Be friendly with participants, but don't be friends."
All the best for your training career.

Hi Ashok,
Welcome to the show!!!!!
Few important things:
1. During our sales career we used to be focussed on our numbers, sometimes we tend to be selfish, we hardly cared for others, and we always used to make fun of the trainers!!!!!
As a trainer, we need to care for people, we cant be selfish and we need to accept the fact that sales people will never be satisfied with what we say!!!!!!

You are moving to training verticle........
all the do and don'ts you will know time to time but one important thing which is mendatory for all the trainers during delivery of session that is PASSION AND INVOLVEMENT in the training process after this you will able to deliver power packed sessions.

Dear Ashok,
Couple of months ago there was article in <link outdated-removed> ( Search On Cite | Search On Google ) about training. I am attaching the article to this mail. It will give good idea to you before you enter into the training function.
I also have written article "Why Employee Fails?" and have given for publishing to The Economic Times. When will it be published, I cannot say. It is pending at editorial board office of Mumbai, their HO. This article also will give you clearcut idea of what is expected from a trainer.
