HI, Companies should not asked to do so as its a cultural issue. Companies should not hire married women if it is effecting their business.

Hi,
Being tracking this post. What i feel is the Cos. decision is the need of the hour. I am not defending the co. but the type of industry it is you have to be in that colour. If u r cleaner in a Co. then u have to wear a unifrom a cleaner wears. Take for example a hotel industry. Females in front office have to wear saree which is a must. A muslim with the preception in mind abt a burkha cannot or for that matter will not accept that........
I guess its industry driven demand..... nothing on the wrong side against the Co. or the employee.

First take a positive vibrations from this issue and ask your self. Media line is different from all other sector. In some of the hotel industry also these kind of stuff is not allowed. May be u can ask from your management what are the benefits and disadvantage for our business to wear mangalsutra on working hours. Most important the feelings should be developed in heart not by just to wore the thgs.

Dear Harshal,
The Tv programs need to be made attractive to the viewers. The competition is so much in the market that the HR also comes under lot of pressure and takes some decisions which may not sound very logical. But I do not think that such minor issues like applying of sindhur, bindi and mangal sutra should be taken seriously. When some one is an actor, she is supposed to wear different attires and look differently according to the need. Hence this question of wearing something or the other should be taken as a very minor issue and all of us should come out of it. It is very certain that Indian traditional jewellery can not be mixed up with western outfits.
I advise that husband-wife relationship should be made far more stronger than these decorations. In the Society there will always be diverse opinions.Do not care. Last of all it is the success which is always respected. There will always be admirers of a successful person.Go Bindas.

In India, the mangalsutra is given a lot of weight age.
But I believe the decision lies entirely with the lady wearing it.
The 2 choices i see are:
1. either carry in your purse at work
2. wear a designer one
Let gets thinking members, we see so many lady anchors in the TV, how many of them have their mangalsutras on?
It depends totally on the occasion, I believe.
If its a show they are hosting, its not visible but if in case they are attending a wedding or something personal that is covered they are seen wearing one.
So its all about making a wise choice.
If the lady feels the mangalsutra is very important to be round the neck at all times, then she is free at all times to resign from her job. Marriage is an institution between two people and their minds and hearts.
As mentioned earlier, we need to groom ourselves as per the needs of the work environment.
Thank you.

Hi,
This is a milliion dollar question.. Govt. should frame rules & regulations on the subject matter as Mangal sutra represents our Culture & tradition. Govt.'s intervention in this regard is solicited. MNCs' & Others so-called Modern Cultured Cos. should give more importance to the Culture & tradition of the Society where it operates. It's a really sensitive issue that needs to be attended.

India has always been liberal in following any religion, culture and custom that her people follow. Every company which works in India should be respecting varied Indian culture.

In media or fashion world (Lakme/Revlon eg) I don't find a convincing reason why a woman should be unmarried in promoting their products/services. I think people should be bold, open and modern enough in accepting our Indian culture to persue any business staying in India. Even in Western culture, wearing wedding ring/ engagement ring is completely legal and comes under the standards set by any HR there.

After the long discussion that we saw here...these are the takeaways:

1. Wear a long mangalsutra which could be hidden. A high neck smart high neck skivvy can help. Even a scarf well pinned can help. (Urmila MAtondkar did this in picture )

2. Wear a designer mangalsutra which apparently does not look like one thus respecting your culture.

3. In case your employer cannot come up with a genuine/convincing reason of not wearing a mangalsutra then they cannot force you not to wear one. Check if they have mentioned in the offer letter. Else they need to give a revised one. If you are not convinced, then look out for another job, there are many.

4. We definitely see many female workers not wearing mangalsutra or any of their marriage symbols, this could be because they are ashamed of their marriage... [I know I might have hurt some]. But those who respect their marriage, can definitely chose to select any of the options given in above points. I don't think talking to husband and convincing him to allow his wife for not wearing the mangalsutra is a good option. This might lower down your respect infront of him.

Its upto individual how he/she tackles the work along with personal life. How can they convince the employer in their favour is upto them. There is always an option of saying NO at the right time.

If you do not agree to my comments, then please get up, arise else whole of India is in high risk zone and ready to sink in this world.

All the best and God bless in making your career and personal life a success.
