Ravi,
I completely agree with you on this... Most of the employees they keep blaming the management for being strict and they do not go to the dept of the reason for why these rules are made..
Thanks
Shweta :)

Dear Aarti,

Three times late coming up to 10 minutes is permitted in most of the organisations as any misconduct above three times considered as habitual. After all we have to get work from employees. If you call for strict actions on said misconduct then there will be unrest among the employees. so for controling said misconduct you collect information from employees about reason for late reporting to duties. The reasons may be anything. Work on same and try to find out remedies where employees will feel comfort. This activity will show your caring nature and gives you positive results in organisation. It will help you to council the employees who are realy doing mischief within organisation.

If the reasons are not guniun then you put notice on notice board about the deduction of half day salary against every late coming which is above three time. Most of the organisations use said practice for controling late coming of employees. Also issued advisory memo, warning letters to misbehaving employees.

Your action on one employee teach lesson to group of employee.

Regards,

PRAMOD.

To my knowledge and to sum up it is better to define "the rules for late coming / reporting in Office" in HR manual / guidelines which company has made for its employees. This will help in giving clear cut direction to all those who come late and HR person from using situational judgement.

Hello All,
Can anybody help me on below?
In my organization office timing is 10 AM to 7 PM.
Now we have a policy that if any employee is coming after 10 AM even at 10.01 that will be considered as a half day.
Due to this burden policy Many times my salary gets dudected.
I dont understand how one can measure productivity of an employee by this way.
I used to work till 7.30 even. but just because of 1 or 2 min. late it is considered as a half day.
Pls. help me how to write AVP HR to change this policy

Hi aarthi,
Human beings are not machines.. as an HR person must implement timing policy at the same time we must have empathy on others. We make them to understand the importance and necessary of time keeping. Deducting employee salary is not gonna do anything... employees will get fear on hr so they avoide and hesitate to come forwrd for anything at the same time confidence on management is surely decrese... finaly no job satisfaction as well as it affects those productivity...
Must implement work time policy as well as make them understand the rules and regulation... make them to work with company but don't work for company...

I think companies should allow flexible working hours unless and until if job actually requires to be time specific like sales representative. Since humans are not machines. Every human being has different needs and they are most productive when you grant them flexibility. Some of our co-workers are most productive during early morning hours and some of them during the evening.

Can an employer deduct salary retrospectively like deduct from July’s salary for late comings from the month of January to June

Employees are expected to adhere to office timings. Recently it has been found that the employees have started taking the office timings lightly. There has been increase in the late comers. Every now and then company is finding people coming late to the office.
The Management has been decided to take strict action against the employees who are coming late on duty. There will be no grace time and for every late coming employee attendance will be considered as ‘half working day’
The Management has always accepted the genuine reasons for being late but when employees start taking privileges for granted then it becomes responsibility of company to take required action. So from now onwards no late coming requests would be accepted which may please be noted.
