Dear Friend,
Now you would have understood why the question was asked, coz your true attitude came out. If the same question is asked for all the interview, then that is a time tested question. I have my personal experiance on the same. Not all HR are fools but they have the talent to find out a fool.

i will like to advise all the HR people here, on how to take interview,
you can first go through his resume and ask specific questions to counter attack and find out ,,,
like
so u passed ur graduation which year,,
from which college,,
n compare it with his resume,
when u started working which yr
ok
what was ur bosss name?
etc
etc
act as if u know someone in that co,,,
just ask him whether he knows Mr, X , in finance dept, he will tell , yes / no n if he really is faking he will be flabbergasted,
the above is more helpful than ur TMAYS

Hai Dasp,

"Tell me about yourself" is a common question asked in most of the organization today. The purpose of asking this question is not to irritate us ,it is asked to check our communication skills and the way we represent ourself.Based on this question most of the organization will deceide whether to choose this person or not.you can introduce youself in the following ways mentioned below:

1.When asked to "tell me about yourself," say, "I will gladly answer that question, but may I first ask you a question? (They ALWAYS say yes) So that I may better focus my answer, what are the issues you want me to address should you hire me?

2.Think about what kind of person you would like working for you and convey that to the employer

3.Just list off a few characteristics that you see yourself as having. If it's for a job interview, make all of the characteristics sound as postive as possible

4.When you're in a job interview, that is NO TIME to be shy. Brag about yourself

5.Employers love to ask you questions that get to your perception of yourself

6.Because this is such a common question, it may be a good idea to sit down ahead of time and list 4-5 qualities and examples in your previous experience where these qualities allowed you to overcome a problem or succeed at a task

7.Your best strategy is to honestly sell yourself and your abilities to an employer to get a job that is a good fit for you, in a company that is a good fit for you.

8. I suggest you go into the interview with a few "talking points" about yourself, in other words things you want the interviewer to know about you

Trust the above mentioned points meets your reqirement.

jaishree

Dear Prashanth,
It is said that the `Altitude a person reaches depends on his Attitude'
So why should one get irritated by a question. The best thing to do is to answer about yourself covering the following aspect of yourself.
i) The Educational Qualification
ii) Career Growth
iii) Your expectation out of a job
iv) Your expectation from any organisation
v) Your view of life
vi) Your Hobbies
vii) Your family
viii) Your Background
ix) Your achievements
x) Totally-your Physical, Psychological, Personal, Spiritual self
and feel relieved instead of getting irritated and stressed about the question.
It reveals your composure and personality too
All the best

Long back there was discussion going on a question normally asked by HR" Tell me something about yourself " Many member supported and few even said a foolish question normally being asked by an HR when nothing is there to ask.. I hope you all guys who have been saying the same will get answered by seeing this video clip...
Cover Letter Sales Sample : Cover Job Letter Sales
After reading this if any body has the same thing to say as HR simply waste time asking this question.I'll say they will still take time to get matured.

Hi,
I just like to share my view,The question is asked by all HR so that the candidate get comfortable to face interview just like warmup as everybody can speak atleast some thing about themselves & get adapted in the flow as we all know this question will not decide the selection.
