The organization I was working had 90 days notice period. I served my resignation on 01 May 2022 and proposed my last working date as 02 June 2022 and agreed to pay recovery for 57 days. The company accepted my resignation and changed by last working date as 12 May 2022. This lessening of notice period was without my consent. Now when I am asking for relieving, the company is superimposing recovery for 78 days. Is it fair? What shall I do? In my case, the company accepted my resignation and lessened the proposed notice period days.

The company is trying to extract the proverbial 'last ounce of flesh' from you by asking for payment of extra 21 days, probably they may have felt encouraged since you agreed to pay for 57 days shortfall in the notice period. You should resist this extra claim and point out that the relieving on 12th May was never sought by you, in fact it is the company decision and you have no other recourse except to go by it. Such a claim is not acceptable.
