Hi, I am from a small Institute registered as a Private Limited company with 11 employees. Few employees joined during Oct 2019 and Sept2019 and now they are claiming a year completion experience certificate. Please suggest if it's valid to issue an experience certificate for one year, whereas the employee has actually worked for 06 months prior to lockdown. This confusion is because of the lockdown situation. Please advise.

Dear Sarita,
Whether an employee worked or not, whether there was a lockdown or not, each employee is eligible to get an experience certificate from his/her Date of Joining (DOJ) to Last Working Day (LWD).
Hope this settles your query.
Thanks,

Some people have been working in your company since Sept 2019 and some from Oct 2019.
Lock down effected in March 2020. But all the employees are in the pay roll of your company from Sept 19/Oct 19 onwards. So, without any hesitation, you can issue Experience certificate from their date of joining services to their exit date.

Dear madam,
I have different take from my learned colleagues.
Employment certificate and Experience certificate are two different things.
In your case the employees have been in your employment for one year but because of the pandemic they could not work for six months. Therefore, to state that they have experience of one year in your organization would be incorrect.
In my view, it would be appropriate for you to issue certificate stating that there period of employment is from DOJ to last date but because of the pandemic they actually worked from ----to----.
