Dear Smita,
Attendance bonus can be given only when an employes has not availed any leave for a period of time. Attendance bonus policy differs from one organisation to another.

Dear Smita,

1. Attendance Bonus acts as a motivation to employees and helps reduce unplanned Leaves; helps plan better Staffing/Manpower!! Though as mentioned by Mr. Khosla, no act specifies the same.

2. Such bonus policies are majorly found in IT and ITES industries!!

3. As no Act has defined it, organization makes their own policies regarding the Attendance Bonus/incentive.

4. Generally, Attendance Bonus is paid to those emplyees though do not take any unplanned/unapproved leave in a particular month!! Those who avail their planned leaves are considered for Attendance Bonus/Incentive.

5. Some organizations have slabs/buckets for Attendance Bonus/Incentive.

For Example:

If an employee has No Unplanned Leaves: Rs. 1500

If an employee has 1 Planned Leave: Rs. 1350

Ifan employee has 2 Planned Leaves: Rs. 1200

If an employee has 3 Planned Leaves: Rs. 1000

If an employee has 3-5 Planned Leave: Rs. 800

If an employee has more than 5 Planned Leaves: Rs. 500

If an employee has 1 or more Unplanned Leaves: Rs. 0

6. Similarly, some IT/ITES also pay Shift Incentives so as to motivate their employees to work in Late, Graveyard or early Morning shifts.

Hope i have given you clarity on the subject.

Dear Smita,

As suggested by several members Attendance Bonus (AB) scheme is dependant upon the company policies.

Some companies offer AB for 100% attendance while some others permit 1 day planned leave (provided he has leave to credit)

But there is also a unique scheme wherein the AB progressively increases for every month of punctual attendance.

For Example the AB starts at say Rs.200/- in January and for every month of right attendance the amount multiplies 400, 600 ----2400 in December. But on any given month there is a break in Attendance then it once again starts from 200/- in the succeeding month.

If the employee earns AB consequetively for the first half year Jan - Jun he gets Rs.1200/- (6 months X Rs.200/-) + Rs.1200/- additional bonus. Likewise this is repeated during the second half year if he is regular. If he is regular for the whole calendar year then he earns Rs.2400/- (12 months X Rs.200/- + Rs.1200/- half yearly bonus + Rs.2400/- Annual Bonus = Rs.6000/- in December. By this way the employee not only tries to maintain regular attendance throughout the year but also strives to abstain himself from work as he will loose substantial earning in December.

The scheme can always be fine tuned for the second, third successive year and so on as per your policies.

Availed leave is considered as leave in punctuality category. So only who has been present 100% in month can only be eligible for bonus !!
