Dear Team, I am currently working as HR for a school. We employ teaching and non-teaching staff. The teaching staff is of 4 categories (Kindergarten, Primary, Secondary, Higher secondary). In each category, we have employees of varied experiences. They are paid according to their experience. I have been asked to revamp the pay band for each category into Fresher, Junior & Senior. Kindly someone helps me out.

Dear Colleague,
This is a very sensitive subject and hence you know that it has to be done with good amount of home work. Both Teaching and Non- Teaching staff should be attended when such move is done.
To begin with understand the word " Revamp" from Management what they really want you to do. In many cases the word is misleading and after you do volumes of work the other side turns back and they say this was not meant etc. Hence have a full understanding then work on this. This is my suggestion and you will have your own wisdom to take it further in your own way.
- Kindly have a bench marking around nearby private schools how they pay for their employees through contacts informally as any formal mode will not work
-Check for the norms of Government of Tamil Nadu for B.Ed/ M.Ed and experience / TED qualified and not qualified etc
- Bring in a system of Merit Rating or Performance Evaluation for all Teaching and Non- Teaching Staff if allowed by Management
- Create a Compensation Policy if your management is agreeable like giving weightage for Performance, Experience/ qualification/ efforts of individuals for periodic updating of teaching skills / Pass % achieved in their class and public examination/ personal initiatives and other parameters
- Create a band and Structure for upto 5th Standard / Upto 8th Standard/ Upto 10th / Higher Secondary
- Create a band for Non- Teaching Staff also like Technically qualified / non- Technical etc.
Then take Management Approval with all Cost impact factors and impact per year etc. Then do the further process.
