Hi all,
I am Hemalatha from Chennai, Ph.D Research Scholar. I am interested in getting in insight about Artificial intelligence technologies which are used in Human Resource Management.
Based upon past review of literature, I reckon that AI is used exclusive in HR practices like recruitment, training & development, performance appraisal and so on in countries like USA & Canada. I am curious to know about the state of AI technologies in HR in Indian Cities and to be more specific its applications in Chennai based organisations. I really do need all your valuable suggestions and ideas to progress with my research. My basic research objective is to identify the various AI technologies used in HR practices and its impact on Human resource management practices with reference to Chennai. Kindly suggest me the practical possibilities and limitations of this research topic.

Dr. Hemalatha,

Happy to note your keen interest in interdisciplinary research.

Your this post dated 18.02.2020 is not responded by any one yet. Therefore I am making attempt to respond you.

Its my personal feeling that to explore areas of AI implementation in HR function is at far away in India, other than IT sector.

As you know AI role in HR domain starts with recruitment till performance appraisal of employees. In India, the IT Sector only the Big Corporates are using AI to increase efficiency of human resources. I need not to tell you that the role of AI is larger into various functions carried out in HR department where by robotics companies can handle recruitment, hiring, analyzing data, collecting data, reducing workload at workplace and enriching workplace efficiency.

In this forum we are are generally Labour Law learners. Many of us must not even heard the word AI yet.

You need to do some research on Google Baba to find out appropriate forum for you. You may find there many study reports on AI and its impact on HR Functions.

In my opinion there is a need to redefine the research objectives, as identifying the various AI technologies used in HR practices and its impact on Human resource management practices is a little banal and I suggest to expand it to measure the perception of employees towards AI and how the organisations are coping with the transition.

HR has tremendous scope for AI as there is a lot of repetitive data based work. The basic particulars of the employee like qualification, DOB, experience profile, T&D exposures are required across the breadth of the employee's service and hence digitise them and use AI Technologies a lot of manhours can be spared. The AI has started making its presence felt in the work places and even in core areas like attitude assessment of employees where Chatbots have made an entry internationally. The core human skillsets: analytical, strategic, critical thinking, cultural awareness, emotional intelligence etc are the fields of AI in future

Hi Hema,
So far, what we have seen is that most of the HR processes in India have not yet reached a major level of standardisation and so are in a state of constant process re-engineering.
At the most I have seen AI being implemented for some chat bots and these have not been impressive, because the NLP inplemented fails to capture the context of the employee query through keyword recognition.
So, a number of companies have started investing in data analytics and high cost ERP packages, but the high cost ERP packages have the main focus on the main business process, with less focus on the HR process. This is mainly due to the cost factor where cost of resource supply for HR is still less compared to the AI implementation cost in the process.
