Dear All, Please guide me about Chennai Professional Tax deduction, I googled it but there is lots of confusion, one of my friend saying there would be no deduction if employee is getting less than 21000/ salary per month , other is saying this 21000 is for 6 months,
please advise.

Hi,
It is not monthly income. If the Average Half-Yearly Income is 21000/-or less than that then no professional tax. Please note that apart from salary any other perks like food allowance /week end allowance will also attract Professional tax.

Hi,
What ever earned gross income including any food allowance/special allowances for 6 months will be considered for Professional tax.
Half-year" shall be from the 1st day of April to the 30th day of September and from the 1st day of October to the 31st day of March of a year;
