I recently joined as HR in small IT firm. My MD wants to Fire some people those who are not performing well. Is there any procedure to do this job smoothly without hurting them, because i joined recently (and I'm new to HR field) and i don't want sign on Termination letter as my first duty! I have given only 2 month of time to evaluating them & to terminate people. Is there any evaluation forms or procedures to do this professionally? How can i handle this situation? Most of Employees are freshers and young people!

Dear Rekha,
It doesn't matter how diplomatically you tell them that will still mean that they are fired. Don't think about that you have given a job and you have to do it. Instead what you should do is , call them council them make them aware of the situation and what is expected out of them. Be very clear but soft while conveying the message of the Management. Also please tell them about the consequences it they don't meet the expectation of the management. That way they will be prepared for both scenarios (i.e. serious employees will try to make it up to the boss and non serious one will search for new prospects) either way they will be ready as the news of being fired will not come with a shock to them. If it comes to that, always ask for resignation from the employee instead of firing them and yes you are now eligible to sign on anyone's termination at this early stage leave that for your boss unless given authority to do so.
