Recruitment has always been exchange of emails, Resume attachments, sometimes in Word, sometimes in PDF. Mail reaching inbox, sometimes finding their way into Spam Folder.
With increased vigilance on E-mails, things have become more dicey when it comes to applications.
Can the Industry accept only checking the profiles on Links than in attachments??

The statement "Recruitment has always been exchange of emails, Resume attachments, sometimes in Word, sometimes in PDF" is not agreed in the current scenario. While this is the scene in major IT industries, the traditional manufacturing and service industries continue in old mode of hard copy applications and correspondence by post, using only electronic media to varying extent depending on the IT readiness of the industrial unit concerned. The utility of the profile verification via linked ins. is not readily acceptable across the industry segments and a little more time is to be give to evolve to higher levels of usage of digital technology/IT. May be, by the beginning of next decade this may become a reality.
